Senior Performance Engineer, Energy Storage
Reporting to the Director – Solution Development, you will develop, optimize, and validate Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) process and performance, and deliver Sumitomo SHI FW strategy for being among the top solution providers driving the decarbonization of energy.
You will be responsible for developing and optimizing static and dynamic performance models for a standardized LAES solution as well as for integrations to industrial and district heating processes.
Location: Finland
You will steer the development and standardization of performance in cooperation with internal stakeholders across different functions, cross functional teams, suppliers, partners and customers.
You will support development of digital simulation tools and offerings with lifecycle service team and other Business Lines.
You will work closely with Systems Engineering, Procurement and Strategic Sourcing, Market and Business Development, Proposal and Commercial, and Project Management teams to ensure alignment and communication and creating optimal value for the customer.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing, optimizing, and validating performance model for the LAES solution as well as for integrations to industrial and district heating processes using thermal/hydraulic process simulation computational modeling tools.
- Responsible of developing performance related technical documentation.
- Responsible of developing performance requirements for equipment specifications
- Responsible for maintaining the cost level of the solution for both CAPEX and OPEX in line with the market and customer requirements.
- Support market and business development team for developing successful and competitive business cases.
- Support establishing and maintaining vendor base for process equipment in cooperation with internal stakeholders and vendors with the focus on safety, cost, efficiency, and faster deliverability.
- Support techno- commercial discussions with suppliers. Work closely with the Procurement and Strategic Sourcing team for development of the suppliers.
- Collaborate in development of technical documentation based on the supplier and customer requirement to deliver integrated solution to customer.
- Support the Systems Engineering team for development of Design Manuals, Engineering Manuals and HAZOP.
- Support developing control logics and sequences
- Support developing the product configuration, structure and database
- Support technical evaluation of the equipment and the product for Fit to Product Range analysis.
- Work closely with the Lifecycle solutions team for the digital offerings and integration of platforms.
- Support the Project Management during the project execution and commissioning teams during the commissioning of the plant for troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Support marketing team, market development team, business development for the positioning and messaging.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in science; Mechanical Engineering, Process, or Chemical Engineering, with strong technology background. MBA is an advantage
- 5+ years of experience with performance modelling from process, power generation, renewable energy, or energy storage, utilizing design and optimization software (e.g., Aspen, HTRI, or similar.)
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
- Knowledge of industry standards such as ASME, TEMA, API, PED, etc.
- Experience and professionalism - having worked in global environment with multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
- Ability to work independently, results driven, demonstrating tenacity, drive, and perseverance with the ability to deliver operational plans in a complex, highly demanding environment.
