Job Description

About CMC

CMC is 100% privately owned, Australian Tier 2 civil contractor based in Queensland, specialising in civil and mining infrastructure. We provide expert design and construction services across various sectors, including roads, bridges, renewable energy, resources, flood recovery, mining, water, and waste management. With a strong focus on our people and culture, we are proud of our 21year legacy delivering multimillion dollar civil works across Queensland and NSW. Our extensive experience and capabilities ensure we deliver high quality outcomes for every project.

About the role

CMC is currently recruiting for a Senior People & Culture Advisor who enjoys being close to the business, solving people issues, supporting leaders, and ensuring the day to day delivery of high quality P&C services.

Reporting to the People & Culture Manager - Operations, you will be the primary day to day P&C contact for leaders and employees across the business. This is a hands on operational role that combines employee relations, advisory support, process improvement and employee lifecycle administration.

We are seeking an experienced advisor who can independently manage operational employee relations matters while remaining highly engaged in the detail, systems, documentation and administration that underpin effective People & Culture service delivery.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary day to day People & Culture contact for leaders and employees.
  • Provide practical, commercially focused advice and coaching on performance, conduct, attendance, probation, grievances and workplace concerns.
  • Independently manage routine to moderately complex employee relations matters from initial assessment through to resolution.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, employee response meetings, evidence gathering and factfinding activities.
  • Prepare investigation findings, recommendations and employment related correspondence, including performance improvement, disciplinary and outcome documentation.
  • Interpret and apply employment legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, employment contracts and company policies.
  • Prepare employment contracts, variations, employee documentation and correspondence.
  • Coordinate employee lifecycle activities including onboarding, transfers, promotions, remuneration reviews, probation processes and offboarding.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, workforce data and HR systems.
  • Partner with Payroll and business leaders to ensure employment data and employee changes are managed accurately and efficiently.
  • Review and improve People & Culture processes, workflows, templates, forms and administrative procedures.
  • Support workforce reporting, compliance activities, audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

About you

You’re an experienced operational P&C professional who enjoys balancing employee relations, advisory work and administration. You are confident handling employee issues independently, but you also understand the importance of accurate documentation, strong processes and data integrity.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in a senior HR or People & Culture advisory role.
  • Proven capability managing performance, conduct, grievance, probation and workplace investigation matters with minimal supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
  • Experience preparing employment correspondence, investigation documentation and employee records.
  • Well developed stakeholder management skills with the ability to coach leaders through people matters.
  • Strong attention to detail and a process oriented mindset.
  • Experience working with HR systems, employee data and workforce reporting.
  • The ability to identify risk, exercise sound judgement and know when escalation is required.
  • Experience in construction, civil infrastructure, manufacturing, resources or from similar industries will be highly regarded.

What we're offering

  • A genuinely varied operational P&C role with broad exposure across the employee lifecycle.
  • The opportunity to work closely with leaders and make a direct impact on workforce outcomes.
  • A supportive and collaborative People & Culture team.
  • Exposure to a diverse workforce across civil construction and infrastructure operations.
  • A stable and growing Queensland owned business with a strong pipeline of work.
  • Competitive remuneration and the opportunity to develop your career within a high performing organisation.
