Job Description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We are currently seeking an individual to join the team in the role of Senior Pensions Operations and Administration Manager.

You’ll support the HSBC Bank (UK) Pension Scheme (the Scheme), one of the UK’s largest private-sector pension schemes, by working with the Trustee Chief Operating Officer (TCOO) across operational activities that deliver an excellent experience for past, present and future members. Your role focuses on overseeing day-to-day administration performance, managing suppliers effectively, strengthening operational resilience and risk management, and shaping and maintaining robust policies, practices and controls. Success means high-quality, compliant and efficient pension operations, ensuring strong third-party performance, and providing clear governance and reporting to support effective decision-making by Trustee and Bank stakeholders.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll

  • Oversee day-to-day performance with scheme administrators, strengthening service delivery, resolving issues and enhancing commercial relationships with administrators, suppliers and advisers
  • Strengthen performance improvement activity with third parties to improve outcomes and experience for members
  • Monitor regulatory changes impacting Scheme operations and apply technical pensions knowledge to evaluate solutions with advisers and suppliers to maintain compliance
  • Own operational risk activity by identifying, analysing, monitoring and mitigating operational risks including third-party risks, with regular review of risk registers, risk and control assessments and issue logs
  • Deliver remediation activity to resolution, tracking progress and outcomes and escalating where appropriate
  • Partner with the Pension Scheme Executive Head of Finance to review financial information received from administrators and follow up queries and issues
  • Prepare papers and recommendations on Scheme operations for the PSE Executive Committee, Trustee Committees, Trustee Board and Bank stakeholders
  • Contribute to strategic development and continuous improvement of member administration and communication services

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements

  • Demonstrate established experience operating within large DB/Hybrid and/or DC pension schemes, acting as a subject matter expert in operational delivery of pension services and pension scheme administration
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of pension administration industry standards and best practices gained in-house or through third-party roles
  • Manage third-party supplier relationships and contractual arrangements with strong focus on operational risk management, partnering closely with the Risk Function
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including holding third parties to account to achieve the best outcomes for members
  • Apply knowledge of pension legislation and the UK regulatory framework across DB and DC benefit structures, digesting regulatory change alongside third-party legal advice to identify required changes to operational processes and practices
  • Demonstrate proactive problem solving, implementing solutions efficiently both independently and collaboratively
  • Use strong analytical, communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills to influence decisions and improve operational outcomes
