Job Description

Reporting to the Paymaster, the Senior Payroll Technician plays a key role in the rigorous execution and monitoring of the full payroll cycle. With strong technical expertise and a high degree of autonomy, this individual ensures payroll is processed accurately and in compliance with all applicable standards. They also support operations related to benefits, legal obligations, and collective agreements. Beyond day-to-day responsibilities, the Senior Payroll Technician contributes to process improvements and acts as a go-to person for team members and internal partners. Their keen analytical skills and attention to detail help deliver reliable, efficient service aligned with regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee the end-to-end bi-weekly payroll process: preparation, entry, verification, validation, and production;
• Perform quality control checks and identify discrepancies or anomalies in payroll data, collaborating with the Payroll Manager to apply necessary corrections;
• Assist in year-end activities (T4s, Relevé 1s, new fiscal year setup);
• Manage administrative records related to payroll: vacation, leaves, RRSPs, group insurance, wage garnishments, work permits, etc.;
• Create and update employee records (both physical and HRIS files);
• Support the processing of group insurance and RRSP plans;
• Issue Records of Employment (ROEs);
• Collaborate on CNESST case management (calculating indemnities, follow-ups);
• Ensure payroll practices comply with tax laws, government standards, and collective agreements;
• Provide first-level support to managers and employees on payroll and benefits questions;
• Assist in preparing audit reports and analyzing payroll data;
• Serve as a resource person for payroll technicians and work with the Payroll Manager to enhance processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• College diploma or technical training in a relevant field is an asset;
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in payroll processing or equivalent experience demonstrating full-cycle payroll expertise in an autonomous role;
• Familiarity with Ceridian Dayforce, Workday, ADP, or other similar payroll systems is an asset, as is experience with Manulife;
• Experience with unionized payroll is an asset;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
• Strong customer service mindset;
• Well-organized, autonomous, thorough, and detail-oriented;
• Excellent communication skills in both French and English, spoken and written.
