Job Description

A growing, PE Backed healthcare organization is seeking a Senior Payroll Manager to lead and manage multi-state payroll operations. This role requires strong technical payroll expertise in payroll tax, compliance, accounting and financial reporting. Fluency in English and either Cantonese or Mandarin is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full-cycle processing of 1,500+ multi-state payroll across hourly, salaried, W-2, and 1099 populations.
• Execute weekly, biweekly, and monthly payroll cycles with full accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
• Prepare and review payroll reports, reconciliations, and year-end filings (W-2, 1099, etc.).
• Serve as the primary employee-facing contact for payroll questions, issue resolution, and policy guidance.
• Maintain strong internal controls, payroll documentation, and audit-ready records.
• Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and Operations teams to support onboarding, offboarding, benefits, timekeeping, and payroll-related inquiries.
• Assist with payroll system improvements, automation, and process optimization initiatives.

Requirements

• Fluency in English and Mandarin is required.
• 5+ years of payroll accounting and compliance experience, including multi-state payroll and NY Wage Parity compliance.
• Experience managing teams of 1-5+ payroll processors handling 1,000+ employees.
• Strong hands-on experience with W-2, 1099, hourly/salary structures, and varied pay cycles.
• Comfort and professionalism serving as the payroll point of contact for employees.
• Solid understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with ADP, Paychex, or similar payroll systems preferred.
• High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality.
