Job Description

We are seeking a Senior/Principal Pavements Engineer to assist our growing National Transport team. This role provides an opportunity to work on a range of road & highway, airport, mining, ports and heavy industrial projects and contribute to the growth of the Transport team within Tonkin. Our ideal candidate would have 10+ years’ experience in pavements engineering with a technical background in transport related projects and recent experience in the design of flexible, rigid and stabilised pavements.

Where You Are:

  • We are open to the role being in either Adelaide or Brisbane however the candidate will work on projects throughout Australia, predominately South Australia, Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

What You Bring:

  • Relevant qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in an Engineering discipline (e.g., Civil, Structural).
  • 10+ years of professional experience in civil engineering, ideally within a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated technical background in Pavements Engineering related disciplines for state and local government agencies or other transport related clients, including: Flexible (bound and unbound) and rigid pavement design, Road & highways pavements to state Transport Authorities specifications, Sealed and unsealed airports pavements, Mining haul roads, Ports & heavy industrial pavements, Pavement condition assessments and rehabilitation design, Pavement & geotechnical investigations
  • Experience with relevant Australian Standards, Industry Design Guides and Local Authority Specifications.
  • Experience with a range of pavement design software which may include CIRCLY, APSDS and HIPAVE
  • Recent experience in Project Management roles
  • Strong ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Efficient multi-tasker with a fundamental understanding of project delivery processes.
  • Bonus Points:
  • Experience in sustainable pavement engineering practices including stabilisation, recycled pavement materials etc.
  • Recent experience delivering projects for the SA Department for Infrastructure & Transport or the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.

What You'll Do:

  • Apply your technical expertise to the design of a range of pavements projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and regulations
  • Provide inputs to other engineers and drafters in producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with other disciplines to ensure project coordination.
  • Deliver well-documented designs, including drawings, specifications, and reports, meeting Tonkin's and client standards.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers within the team, fostering their technical growth and stay abreast of the latest advancements in design and construction technologies.
