The Senior OT Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, standardization, security, lifecycle management, and operational reliability of plant-floor OT infrastructure and its integration with enterprise IT systems. This role sits within the IT organization and focuses on ensuring reliable connectivity, security, and lifecycle management of industrial systems that support manufacturing operations.

The position acts as a bridge between IT and plant engineering teams, enabling consistent OT environments across sites while prioritizing uptime, safety, and cybersecurity in traditional manufacturing operations.

Job Location

This is a hybrid role based at our Corporate Office in Atlanta, GA.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support standardized integration between OT systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI) and IT platforms (MES, historians, ERP interfaces).
  • Establish and maintain reference architectures aligned with ISA-95 / Purdue Model.
  • Drive consistency across manufacturing sites by defining OT integration standards, patterns, and approved technologies.
  • Support plant initiatives requiring data exchange between production systems and enterprise applications.
  • Partner with IT infrastructure teams to design and support OT network connectivity, including segmentation, firewalls, and DMZs.
  • Ensure OT environments align with corporate IT standards for networking, identity, logging, backup, and monitoring.
  • Support secure remote access solutions for vendors and plant support teams.
  • Implement and maintain OT cybersecurity controls in alignment with IT security policies and industry standards (IEC 62443, NIST).
  • Participate in OT risk assessments, vulnerability remediation, and audit activities.
  • Ensure changes to OT environments follow IT change management and approval processes.
  • Provide senior-level support for OT integration issues impacting plant operations.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring integration or connectivity issues.
  • Support lifecycle management of OT infrastructure including hardware refreshes, software upgrades, and vendor end-of-support planning.
  • Develop and maintain OT integration documentation, standards, and procedures.
  • Enforce governance for OT connectivity, data flows, and third-party access.
  • Review and approve system integrator and vendor designs to ensure alignment with IT standards.
  • Act as the primary IT point of contact for OT integration at assigned manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate closely with plant engineering, automation, and maintenance teams.
  • Mentor junior IT/OT engineers and support knowledge transfer across sites.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience supporting OT or manufacturing IT environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working within an IT organization supporting plant-floor systems.
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI).
  • Experience with OT networking concepts and protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC).
  • Hands-on experience with firewalls, switches, network segmentation, and secure remote access.
  • Experience with Inductive Automation Ignition and OT Security platforms a plus
  • Familiarity with historians, MES, and OT data integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with plant floor Industrial PCs, servers, workstations, scanners, tablets, label printers, laser printers, etc.
  • Operational experience with on-prem server virtualization and cloud computing platforms.
  • Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles and IT governance processes.
