of Role
Reporting to the Senior Base Metals Operator, the candidate will be the key member of the Global Metals Operations function. The role supports the global Concentrates trading activity—spanning Minerals, Concentrates by ensuring flawless physical execution of cargo flows and by proactively identifying and mitigating operational risks.
The role requires deep understanding of bulk logistics, stock management, and multimodal transport, combined with strong stakeholder management across regions. As a senior operator, the individual will also provide mentorship, support process improvement, and ensure operational excellence for the global business.
Main Responsibilities
- Liaise with counterparties on purchase and sales contracts using standard templates; manage contract amendments during the transaction lifecycle as required.
- Ensure new counterparties are onboarded by the Compliance Team and conduct timely sanctions screenings of ongoing counterparties and vessels using internal systems.
- Serve as a reliable point of contact for routine internal and external inquiries related to Concentrates Traffic operations.
- Maintain close communication with counterparties, escalating issues prudently to senior Ops/Trading team members when necessary.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Operations, Traders, and Management) to ensure smooth cargo movement.
- Take ownership of operational issues, coordinating between customers, warehouses, and freight forwarders until resolution.
- Operate across multiple products and time zones with flexibility.
- Demonstrate knowledge of blending, cargo shipment procedures (bulk and containers), customs export/import requirements, environmental reporting, industry standards, maritime terminology, transport laws, and their impact on cargo operations.
- Manage cargo inventory and liaise with ports, terminals, agents, and understand international legal restrictions on vessels, trucks, and rail used for shipments.
- Support the Trade Finance team with Letters of Credit processes and related documentation.
- Apply analytical skills to product movement reconciliation, warehouse audits, and loss control investigations.
- Perform month-end inventory reconciliation, addressing discrepancies and communicating closely with traders.
- Undertake any other ad-hoc tasks as assigned.
Profile
The individual should have the following experience:
- Minimum 5-6 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally at a commodity trading company; Smelter
- Commercial understanding of international commodity trading, ideally with experience of Concentrates and ore
- Knowledge of Letters of Credit, UCP 600, Incoterms, basic contract formation principles and invoicing
- Strong Teamwork skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to juggle many tasks concurrently by prioritizing effectively
- Good customer service skills and an “up-beat do-er” who is able to work under their own steam
- Strong IT skills on Microsoft Office Suite, SAP experience would be useful but not essential
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across cultures and time zones.
- Able to perform under pressure and occasionally during off‑hours due to real‑time logistics requirements.
- Positive, collaborative mindset and commitment to sharing knowledge within the team.
- Experience with CTRM/ETRM systems.
- Strong MS Excel and analytical tools capability.
- Full fluency of English (both written and oral), with ability to understand Mandarin (to liaise with Mandarin speaking associates)
