Downer’s Maintenance & ITS business is proud to be expanding its footprint across South Australia, delivering vital road and asset maintenance and construction services across the Barossa, Riverland and South East Regions, covering approximately 5,600 km of sealed road network. It’s an exciting time to be part of a team that’s delivering these critical works across the state. 

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to play a pivotal role in the financial management of our Transport & Infrastructure contracts. This role provides leadership across day‑to‑day finance activities, supports operational decision‑making and ensures strong financial controls across assigned projects.

Partnering closely with Project Managers, commercial teams and shared services, you’ll help drive accurate reporting, robust forecasting and strong contract financial performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading day‑to‑day financial management for assigned contracts and projects

  • Delivering accurate and timely monthly financial reporting, forecasts and budgets

  • Managing cashflow forecasting, cost control and WIP

  • Reviewing and approving journals, accruals, reconciliations and cost allocations

  • Overseeing month‑end close activities and ensuring General Ledger integrity

  • Managing client invoicing, claims and supporting documentation

  • Ensuring compliance with financial controls, governance and approval frameworks

  • Providing guidance and coaching to the team

  • Partnering with operational teams to support informed decision‑making

  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency

What you’ll bring

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline (desirable)

  • Significant experience in a senior finance or management accounting role

  • Strong experience supporting project‑based or contract environments

  • Sound knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, reporting and cash flow management

  • Strong General Ledger experience including journals, accruals and reconciliations

  • Experience managing or reviewing month‑end close activities

  • Experience with enterprise financial systems (JD Edwards highly desirable)

  • Strong Excel skills and financial analysis capability

  • Proven ability to partner with operational and non‑finance stakeholders

  • Excellent attention to detail with a commercial, solution‑focused mindset
