About the role

Key Responsibilities:

Local Regulatory Compliance & Operational Implementation:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on local regulatory requirements relevant to our industry (e.g., business operating standards, safety regulations, R&D inbound/ outbound regulation, data privacy, labor protection).

  • Translate global compliance policies into local operational procedures, ensuring they are practical and effective within the country's business context.

  • Proactively monitor and analyze the impact of new and changing local regulations on business operations, advising leadership on necessary procedural adjustments.

  • Conduct regular reviews and checks to ensure operational activities align with regulatory standards and internal policies.

Primary Regulatory Liaison & Audit Management:

  • Act as the primary point of contact and coordinator for all interactions with local regulatory authorities and government agencies.

  • Lead the end-to-end management of regulatory audits, inspections, and ad-hoc site visits. This includes preparation, document collection, facilitating on-site activities, and coordinating the official response in partnership with the relevant Global Legal team.

  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with local regulators to ensure smooth communication and represent the company's operational compliance posture.

Country Operations Advisory & Governance Support:

  • Act as the trusted advisor to the General Manager and country leadership on day-to-day operational compliance queries and the regulatory aspects of business initiatives.

  • Provide practical guidance to departments (e.g. Finance, HSE, Security, Facilities, HR, Operations) to ensure their plans and activities are designed and executed within established regulatory and policy frameworks.

  • Support the GM in administering local entity governance requirements & management system such as organizing annual HSE, ISO, CSER meetings and maintaining records, as mandated by local regulation or certification agencies.

Local Corporate Social & Environmental Responsibility (CSER):

  • Serve as the country lead for the company's CSER program.

  • Develop and execute a local CSER strategy that aligns with global goals and addresses specific local community needs.

  • Identify, partner with, and manage local community organizations and initiatives.

  • Act as the internal champion for local environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.

Policy Implementation & Training:

  • Adapt global compliance and CSER policies for local implementation, ensuring clarity and relevance for local employees.

  • Partner with relevant Global team to develop and deliver effective training programs on compliance procedures, ethical conduct, and CSER initiatives for all local staff.

  • Foster a strong culture of compliance and social responsibility throughout the country organization.

Incident Management & Reporting:

  • Act as the first point of contact for local operational compliance and Security/HSE/CSER incidents, govern the resolution in accordance with local requirements, company policies and procedures

  • Support and lead the initial fact-finding and assessment of local issues, documenting events and providing resolution, escalating to the Global Legal and Compliance teams per established protocols.

About you

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Compliance, Law or a related field. Professional compliance certification (e.g., CCEP) is a strong plus.

  • Minimum of [8-10] years of proven experience in a compliance, regulatory affairs, or risk management role, with deep expertise in the Malaysia regulatory environment.

  • Demonstrable experience as the primary liaison with local authorities, including managing regulatory audits and site visits.

  • Experience developing and managing Corporate Social Responsibility or community engagement programs is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of local regulatory frameworks affecting E&E in Malaysia

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to advise, influence, and train staff at all levels and interact confidently with external regulators and partners.

  • Fluent in Bahasa Melayu and English.

  • High integrity, independent judgment, and a pragmatic, business-enabling approach.
