Job Description


The position carries the combined responsibility of 0.3 administrative work and 0.7 clinical work. The senior assists in effective coordination and operation of the department and promotion and adherence to professional practice standards in the department/discipline of occupational therapy. Responsible for a clinical caseload within a physical medicince position at the Charlton site as per the job description for an Occupational Therapist. Working autonomously, but collaboratively with a broad range of disciplines toward specific interprofessional goals related to quality, risk management, education, and research. Assisting the manager in the integration of St. Joseph's vision, mission, values and strategice priorities into the practice of occupational therapy and developing high quality occupational therapy services and developing a strong high functioning occupational therapy team.

The senior working with the Manager of Occupational Therapy and Senior OT Charlton services assists in effective coordination and operation of the occupational therapy profession at West 5th campus in coordination with the manager of OT and senior OT Charlton campus and promotion and adherence to professional practice standards in the department/discipline of occupational therapy. Responsible for a maintaining clinical expertise in mental health practice as per the job description for an Occupational Therapist. Working autonomously, but collaboratively with a broad range of disciplines toward specific interprofessional goals related to quality, risk management, education, and research. Assisting the manager in the integration of St. Joseph's vision, mission, values and strategic priorities into the practice of occupational therapy and developing high quality occupational therapy services and developing a strong high functioning mental health occupational therapy team.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy required
- Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required
- 5 years recent and related experience in variety of mental health settings required
- Demonstrated experience or participation in formal or informal leadership development training required
- Demonstrated experience scheduling and managing hours in a unionized environment required
- Representation related to Professional Practice preferred
- Current BCLS/HCP certification required
- Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of senior patients with mental health illnesses and their families and familiarity with models of care for mental health patients and trauma informed care.
- Gentle Persuasive Approach training preferred
- Demonstrated successful leadership in formal and informal departmental and corporate projects required
- Basic computer skills for word processing, workload measurement, presentations, creating databases / graphs to present information and access to information
- Demonstrated exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated proven ability to function well within an interdisciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Exceptional analytical thinking and creative problem solving skills -- a history of solution focused approaches to all areas of worklife
-Demonstrated successful leadership formal or informal departmental and corporate projects required
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver staff education programs preferred
- LEAN training or similar Quality Framework training an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES
Some responsibilities include:
- Assists with the daily operation and organizational effectiveness of the discipline of occupational therapy at West 5th monitoring that clinical service response times, coverage of vacancies and workload targets are met
- Assists with scheduling and coverage models within the discipline
- Leads goal attainment annually on the departmental goals
- Assists in facilitating and scheduling OT quality and practice meetings
- Assists in educator role for the department determining learning needs, providing or ensuring education activities are arranged, supporting individual development plans for staff
- Promotes team spirit, cohesiveness, motivation and commitment to the organization's program's, department's and discipline's visions, values, and strategic directions
- Fosters an environment which facilitates the use of evidence-based practices
- Assists in the coordination of orientation and supervision for new staff in the department
- Assists in the coordination and evaluation of learner placements as necessary
- Ensures professional standards, behaviour and College requirements are being met
- Coordinates risk management activities ie procedures for infection control, equipment maintenance, higher risk activities
- Liaises with and/or represents the department on key internal and external departments/programs/committee/task groups to promote participation, integration and alignment of activities of the department
- All other duties as assigned by Manager
