Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in testing.
  • Experience in managing live networks (e.g., working in an ISP, dealing with customer networks), testing networking products and deployment scenarios, and using Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience in test automation using Python or C++.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience with testing/releasing networking products.
  • 10 years of experience working with and testing multiple L2 and L3 networking protocols as well as troubleshooting automation.
  • Experience architecting and developing test infrastructure to support large scaled network solution.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming languages, such as C++ or Python.

You have hands-on experience with complex networking equipment, a deep understanding of networking protocols, test design and implementation chops and a background in IP network design. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000-$218,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipate scaling bottlenecks, software inefficiencies, or shifts in usage, improve network planning and quantitative models, simplify and standardize existing solutions, increase availability and reliability, or make data-driven optimizations and adjustments.
  • Involve in reviewing production issues, and make infrastructure available to recreate production issues and verify fixes.
  • Review test plans with the team, and participate in cross-functional reviews with related teams which cover test plans and test results.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for the team and other Google groups on the integration of routing protocols, test strategies, and Google-specific technologies. Demonstrate the ability to optimize system-level or network-level design.
  • Identify and manage project priorities and issues for network test products or releases, develop schedules and designs, and oversee designs or work of several test engineers or projects.
