Job Description

Symmetrio is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support a major enterprise network transformation initiative for our customer, a large government organization. This position will serve as the senior technical authority across mission-critical network infrastructure, providing architectural direction, hands-on engineering expertise, and executive-level support during a pivotal transition within Network Operations. The ideal candidate brings deep service provider and large enterprise experience, with the ability to design, optimize, and stabilize complex environments that support voice, video, security, and core connectivity at scale.

This is an on site role based out of Philadelphia, offering a salary range of $110,000 to $150,000.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, optimization, and lifecycle management of enterprise WAN, LAN, and data center networking environments.
  • Provide architectural leadership across routing, switching, firewall, and core transport technologies to ensure scalability, redundancy, and high availability.
  • Design and manage advanced routing strategies including complex BGP implementations for multi-homed and distributed environments.
  • Oversee and optimize MPLS-based transport architectures, including VPN segmentation and traffic engineering strategies.
  • Develop and implement network performance policies to prioritize latency-sensitive and high-bandwidth services across the enterprise.
  • Guide secure segmentation and zoning strategies to protect critical infrastructure and enforce security best practices.
  • Configure and manage next-generation firewall platforms, including advanced policy management, VPN architecture, and application-layer inspection capabilities.
  • Support infrastructure that carries real-time voice, video, and high-throughput data services across geographically dispersed locations.
  • Conduct capacity planning and traffic analysis to anticipate growth and maintain performance standards.
  • Provide Tier 3/4 escalation support for complex incidents, performing deep troubleshooting and root cause analysis across routing, switching, and security layers.
  • Partner with executive leadership and operational stakeholders to align network architecture with broader business and security objectives.
  • Develop clear technical documentation, standards, and transition plans to ensure operational continuity.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in network engineering within large enterprise or service provider environments.
  • 3+ years operating in a lead engineer or network architect capacity.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Juniper networking platforms (MX, EX, QFX, SRX) and Junos OS.
  • Strong command of advanced routing protocols, particularly BGP, including policy control and route optimization.
  • Significant experience designing and operating MPLS-based networks and enterprise-scale VPN architectures.
  • Demonstrated expertise in performance optimization and Quality of Service (QoS) design for real-time traffic environments.
  • Advanced experience with next-generation firewall platforms, including centralized management and policy governance.
  • Proven ability to support high-availability, mission-critical network infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities in production environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in large public-sector or highly regulated enterprise environments.
  • Industry certifications such as JNCIP, JNCIE, PCNSE, or equivalent advanced networking credentials.
  • Experience with network automation or infrastructure scripting (Python, Ansible, etc.).
  • Familiarity with structured change management and enterprise documentation standards.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • 401k Retirement Plan (4% match)
