What We’re Looking For:

If you are a Senior Network Engineer with experience advancing enterprise monitoring and observability across complex infrastructure, systems, and business services, then you will be excited about the Senior Network Engineer – Observability role on Iridium’s Operations team! In this new role at Iridium, you will lead efforts to enhance operational visibility and proactive insight by optimizing and integrating monitoring platforms, including Ground Guardian and SolarWinds. You’ll serve as a technical leader, driving initiatives that improve system reliability, accelerate incident response and resolution, and enable data-driven operational decision-making. You will succeed in this role if you have deep technical knowledge in networking and systems (including the Iridium gateway), combined with an enterprise mindset around monitoring strategy, service modeling, and operational maturity.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, implement, and continuously enhance observability and monitoring capabilities across a large-scale, hybrid enterprise environment
  • Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of Ground Guardian (Swoop) to improve visibility and monitoring of the gateway systems, network traffic flows, and customer impacting issues
  • Translate operational and business requirements into scalable, reliable observability solutions by partnering with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across monitoring platforms, including discovery, integrations, and data accuracy
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Development, and Operations teams to build scalable, secure, and resilient monitoring and alerting systems utilizing Ground Guardian technologies
  • Drive operational excellence by identifying visibility gaps, recommending enhancements, and implementing solutions that improve system reliability, performance, and service awareness
  • Develop monitoring frameworks, dashboards, and service models that support proactive detection and accelerate troubleshooting
  • Evaluate tools, integrations, and architectural approaches to advance observability capabilities and support long-term operational maturity

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise monitoring or observability solutions in complex environments
  • Strong understanding of monitoring protocols (SNMP, WMI, APIs), operating systems (Linux/Windows), and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS)
  • Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex, cross-platform issues with minimal oversight
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage personal workload in alignment with deadlines, policies, and procedures
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on continual improvement, automation, and operational maturity

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Previous experience leading technical initiatives and contributing to enterprise-level observability or monitoring strategy
  • Familiarity with supporting SwoopOS and Swoop GroundGuardian environments
  • Strong technical background with gateway operations and service architecture
  • Experience with SolarWinds administration
  • Experience with Linux and Windows administration
  • Experience with automation or scripting (Python, Bash, Ansible, etc.)
  • Relevant networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+) are a plus
  • Knowledge of ITIL v4 practices and service management principles
  • Well versed in use of MS Office Suite and Visio

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel occasionally, typically 3 to 4 times per year.
  • This role requires access to export-controlled technologies; candidates must be a “U.S. Person” as defined by U.S. export control laws (ITAR/EAR)

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.

We believe in-person connection drives innovation, strengthens mentorship, and builds culture, while flexibility enables employees to do their best work.
