The Senior Network Engineer is a critical contributor to the Optus mission, sitting at the frontline of network reliability and customer experience. The network is what Optus customers depend on — and this role is a key reason it operates efficiently. You will play a vital role in ensuring the effective operation of the Optus network, including complex network transmission and 5G infrastructure. This position involves collaboration with national and divisional teams to optimise network performance and availability.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide Level 1st / 2nd technical support for Optus network infrastructure.
  • Maintain Optus Hub, FAN, RAN, CEV, and Data Centre environments through routine, preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Conduct first-response facilities maintenance across all Optus sites, including HVAC and power systems.
  • Mentor peers, drive process improvement, and support business needs as directed by line management.
  • Prioritize faults and continuously develop processes to improve network reliability.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call roster to support network assurance activities.
  • Resolve technical issues through judgment and selection of the best approach.
  • Engage with Tier 2 and 3 engineering and operation departments to support complex tasks and post-incident reviews.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in telecommunications systems and field operations.
  • Certification in Fibre technology courses; TX/DWDM technology training.
  • Vendor-specific transmission system training and certification.
  • CISCO router training; Power Systems training (DC, AC, UPS).
  • Sound understanding of the network under control of this position.
  • Familiarity with new technologies including 5G RAN, NFV, and cloud-managed network infrastructure.
  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Electronic Engineering (or equivalent Recognition of Prior Learning / RPL).
  • Proficiency in IP configuration of LAN ports and FTP/HTTP protocols.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive remuneration and colleague discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and outstanding shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you!
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Direct your own development and build future-ready skills with Optus U’s industry-focused micro-credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
  • Build meaningful connections through colleague-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
