Role Title: Senior Network Engineer

Role Type: Fixed Term Contract (12 months)
Location: Dublin (hybrid working)
Purpose of this role
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimisation, and support of the Athora enterprise network infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. The role ensures the delivery of secure, resilient, and high-performing network services aligned to business and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will be tasked with owning the Athora Group Network Environment and all Network projects associated with it. In addition, the role will provide operational oversight and act as the level 4 escalation SME for all Network operations issues.
This is both a hands-on and strategic role offering the successful candidate a unique opportunity to manage an extensive network operations environment whilst also playing a major role in Athora’s network and IT strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Network Architecture & Design
Design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient network solutions (LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, cloud networking).
Define network standards, architecture diagrams, and technical roadmaps.
Lead network transformation initiatives (e.g., cloud adoption, zero trust frameworks).
Contribute significantly to the Athora Network & IT Strategy
Operations & Support
Provide Level 3-4 support for complex network incidents and problems.
Ensure high availability and performance of network infrastructure
Oversee monitoring, alerting, and capacity management of network services.
Security & Compliance
Implement and maintain network security controls (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, segmentation).
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., DORA, GDPR, ISO 27001).
Support vulnerability management, patching, and security incident response.
Cloud & Modern Networking
Manage and optimise networking in cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
Implement hybrid connectivity solutions (ExpressRoute, VPN gateways).
Support cloud-native networking and micro-segmentation strategies.
Change & Project Delivery
Lead network-related projects and contribute to broader infrastructure programmes.
Manage network changes in line with ITIL change management practices.
Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers.
Documentation & Governance
Maintain accurate network documentation (HLD/LLD, runbooks, SOPs).
Contribute to DR/BCP planning and testing.
Support internal and external audits with required network evidence.

Functional or Technical Knowledge and Skill Required
Expert in WAN and LAN Network Technologies
Expert in Network Security Appliances
Strong Knowledge of CheckPoint Firewalls, Cisco and Meraki Switches and Wireless Access Points
Strong Knowledge of Tufin network management
Highly experienced in network capacity analysis and troubleshooting
In-depth knowledge of Cisco ISE solution
Strong knowledge of Hyperscale networking (Azure / AWS)
Strong knowledge of Infrastructure security and Infra security tools
Experience as technical liaison for third party service/system providers
Experience of project delivery (planning, analysis, implementation)
Exposure to Zero Trust Network Architecture (ZTNA).
Experience with SASE platforms.
