Job Description
LAB3 is one of Australasia’s largest Azure engineering practices, specialising in Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Security, and Networks. We’re looking for a Senior Network Engineer based in Melbourne for our Managed Services team to support and maintain steady state operations for our clients. We are open to contract employment for the ideal candidate, though permanent is a preference.
The role:
• Ensure client Azure networking environments are secure, reliable, and high performing on a day-to-day basis,
• Design, deliver, and support modern network services and cloud access solutions that make a real impact.
• Keep critical infrastructure running at its best across SD-WAN, wireless, Azure networking, WAN, LAN, VPN, switching, endpoints, and firewalls.
• Be the go-to escalation point for clients and internal teams, solving problems quickly and building trust along the way.
• Take the lead on troubleshooting complex performance issues, providing L1/L2/L3 support, and driving issues through to resolution.
• Create and maintain quality Managed Services documentation. Use AI for this where appropriate, as well as to enhance scripting and IaC workflows.
• Spot opportunities to improve, automate, and modernise client network and IT services using IaC and CI/CD practices.
• Be part of the on-call roster and help deliver outstanding support when it matters most.
The ideal candidate:
• Brings strong experience in network management and optimisation
• Has experience managing external stakeholders within a Managed Services environment
• Is an Australian citizen with NV1 clearance
• Based in Melbourne, and comfortable working in a hybrid model
• Experience with the ITIL methodology (Incident, Change, Problem & Request management).
Technical skills (exposure to as many of the following as possible is desirable)
• Azure networking
• Cloud On-Ramp, Express Route
• SD-WAN (Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet)
• Firewalls (Palo Alto, Check Point, Fortinet, Azure)
• Python and PowerShell scripting for network automation
• NBN (FTTP/N/C, HFC), NBN EE, Fiber, MPLS
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep) for network resource provisioning
• Git version control and GitOps workflows for network change management
