Job Description

The Senior Network Engineer, within the Network Service & Experiences Team (NSET), is responsible for ensuring the availability and efficient performance of the Optus network to deliver outstanding customer experiences. Based at Macquarie Park, this role involves monitoring and analysing service indicators using specialised observation tools, diagnosing issues across multiple technology domains, and engaging relevant NMC teams to maintain critical services.

  • Location: 100% on site at Macquarie Park, Sydney
  • Work Pattern: Rotating shift roster, including morning, afternoon and night (24/7)

The day to day

  • Proactively monitor network performance and health, to sustain reliable service availability.
  • Liaise with relevant authorities to provide support for location triangulation, call tracing, and other authorised information requests.
  • Manage escalations of critical or sensitive issues.
  • Troubleshoot network issues, analyse performance data, and support incident response and disaster recovery activities.
  • Recommend and implement continuous improvements to service monitoring and network resilience.

What you Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT, software engineering, telecommunications, or equivalent experience; data science/analytics qualifications also valued.
  • Solid understanding of Network Operations, including business processes and ITIL best practices.
  • Broad knowledge of modern telecommunications networks, particularly Mobile and Consumer Internet.
  • Demonstrable ability to make sound decisions, remain composed, and prioritise effectively under pressure.
  • Hands-on experience with platforms such as 4G/5G RAN or Mobile Core, Fixed Voice Core, IMS, IP infrastructure, or Core Transmission.
  • Demonstrated technical versatility across multi-vendor environments and complex network domains.
