The Leidos Digital Modernization Sector currently has an opening for a Senior Systems Engineer to work in a high-profile datacenter in Suitland, Maryland. The Senior Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership and support in the areas of IT planning, solution specification/design, implementation and target architecture development for the AFNCR Consolidated Communication Center (CCC). The Engineer will support the 844th Communications Group at Joint Base Andrews (JBA). This role includes supporting the Air Force District of Washington (AFDW) and Headquarters Air Force (HAF) customers on both NIPRNet and SIPRNet domains for the development of the CCC building.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop detailed network designs and architectures that align with Department of Defense (DoD) standards.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot network appliances (routers, switches, and firewalls).
Collaborate with procurement teams to identify and source network hardware and software that meet project specifications.
Conduct thorough testing of network systems to ensure functionality, performance, and security compliance.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during installation and testing phases.
Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, installations, and changes.
Develop and update network diagrams and other relevant technical documents.
Work closely with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Provide technical support and guidance to team members and end-users.
Stay updated on DoD policies and best practices related to network security and design.
Implement security measures to protect network infrastructure and data.
Document and enforce network hardware standards and configuration.
Manage and maintain IP addressing schema.
Provide transparent and regular status updates in requested format.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience, additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Active DoD Secret clearance.
Expert knowledge of networking protocols, routing, and switching technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs).
Expert knowledge of enterprise network design principles and networking technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
Strong knowledge of three-layer spine/leaf architecture.
Strong knowledge of protocols, security standards, and design principles for OSI Layers 1-4.
Experience with installation and configuration of physical networking equipment and Local Area Networks (LANs).
Experience with the design and deployment of Wide Area Networks (WANs) using Virtual Private Networking (VPN) technologies.
Experience in interpreting and contextualizing network management and troubleshooting tools and technologies, such as ICMP, SNMPv3, and Syslog.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to build and maintain relationships, partnerships and external networks.
Ability to work independently, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment while keeping the team informed.
Excellent customer facing skills.
Excellent researching, decision-making and organizational skills are required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Visio.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection and other guidelines where appropriate.
Required Certifications:
Advanced networking certifications such as (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, CompTIA Network+).
Desired Skills and Certs:
Experience with Nutanix.
Experience with cloud networking and virtualization technologies.
Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
