What is the Opportunity?
Messaging Technologies is responsible for providing software support for the suite of Integration Bus (IIB) products globally across all RBC platforms. IIB is a middleware product from IBM that runs on multiple platforms and enables applications to send messages to and receive messages from other applications. WMB/IIB allows business information to flow between disparate applications across multiple hardware and software platforms. WMQ and IIB maintenance and support responsibilities include the evaluation, installation, removal, upgrade, setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of the various versions of IBM MQ, WebSphere MQ, MQ Series, WebSphere Message Broker and IBM Integration Bus across the Enterprise.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Messaging Technologies portion of the CPS, accountable directly to the Team Lead of Messaging Technologies.
What will you do?
Assist in the building and maintenance of Messaging technologies primarily on the z/OS operating system
Provide testing, reporting, documentation, and other services, as required
Ensure proper monitoring and alerting is in place for problem avoidance
Determine and recommending performance improvements
Provide L2/L3 support of Messaging technologies, including support to user community
Primary liaison between the vendor (IBM) and RBC for the Messaging technology products
Maintain a very good understanding of supported technology as well as interfacing technology supported by
other areas of RBC
Effectively communicate complex technology subject matter and potential usage possibilities to senior
management, peers and application development teams in RBC I.T.
Ensure that instances of Messaging technology software is at an optimal release level and being involved, as
required, to coordinate/perform upgrades
What do you need to succeed?
Must Haves
Professional with a minimum 5+ years’ experience in an I.T. support role along with a post-secondary diploma,
degree or equivalent
z/OS systems knowledge (including JCL, JES, DFSMS, RACF, TSO, ISPF SMP/E, etc.) is required
Experience with supporting an IBM product on the z/OS operating system preferred
Some experience with administering/troubleshooting IBM MQ and/or IIB on z/OS preferred
Some experience at administering/troubleshooting MQ/IIB installation on some/all of the platforms: iSeries, Windows, Unix/Linux variants,
Understand how to use MQ API and knowledge of transport protocols (TCP/IP, FTP, SSL/TLS, etc.)
Experience with problem ticketing systems (i.e. SM9, ServiceNow)
Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written and capability to manage
multiple priorities across a number of assignments and prioritize effectively
Ability to work in a high pressure environment; resolve conflicts/issues or escalate to others as appropriate
