Working within Risk’s Quantitative Risk Management (QRM) team you will be managing credit risk models across the model life cycle with a focus on model development and monitoring. This work has a direct influence on the Bank’s credit profile with a particular focus in statistical and mathematical modelling alongside enhanced data management practices.
Working within QRM, you’ll provide quantitative risk expertise, lead modelling projects, mentor junior staff, and maintain high-quality outcomes within Westpac’s collaborative culture. Your work will drive best-in-class analytics, support the ‘One Westpac’ team approach, and establish best practices in modelling, analytics, coding, documentation, and data visualisation.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and monitor credit risk models for both retail and non-retail portfolios.
Ensure models meet regulatory compliance and governance frameworks, support model through review process.
Conduct regular model performance monitoring and communicate key findings.
Develop and grow technical expertise in credit risk modelling, collaborating across stress testing, pricing, climate change and decisioning team, and sharing knowledge with the wider QRM team and broader bank
Work towards establishing best practice procedures in modelling, analytics, coding, documentation, and data visualisation.
Challenge existing processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality of outputs.
Foster a high-performance culture driven by achievement, teamwork, and integrity.
Promote a ‘One Westpac’ team approach to enhance internal collaboration and a strong company culture.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
Tertiary qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Proficiency in at least one analytical programming language (SAS, SQL, R, Python or similar), with a willingness to pick up new tools quickly.
Ability to write clear technical documentation, communicate findings and analyses confidently to senior stakeholders, and apply careful attention to detail throughout the model development process - including an openness to challenge.
Familiarity with regulatory framework such as the Basel Accord, RBNZ Banking Prudential Requirements, APRA Prudential Standards, or IFRS is a bonus but not required.
A collaborative mindset focused on delivering results and contributing to team performance
Strong stakeholder engagement skills - comfortable keeping projects moving by proactively managing timelines and working with others to resolve blockers before they become issues.
