Responsibilities:
- To comply with health, safety and environmental standards as per company requirements.
- To oversee the daily and weekly operation of underground shift workers and equipment usage in order to achieve all production, training, and safety requirements.
- To provide support and direction to the shift supervisors and to ensure all workers are trained and competent to perform their duties safely and productively at all times.
- To ensure the effective transfer of skills and knowledge to the workforce.
- Liaise with UG Mining Superintendents ensuring expectations are realistic and projected targets are achieved safely and to specifications.
- Act as UG Production Manager during their absence if required, adhering to agreed schedules, programs and targets.
- Coordinate manpower, roster preparation, annual leave scheduling and assist with employment / deployment of workforce.
- Promptly act on any safety issues that arise, ensuring accident / incident reporting is carried out and followed up.
- Carry out regular inspections of equipment and communicate with the Maintenance department regularly on maintenance scheduling.
- Maintain accurate records relevant to the role in accordance with the relevant Mining Act’s, Codes and Regulations
- Ensure inventory is correctly accounted for on a shift-by-shift basis.
- Attend safety meetings with staff and ensure any responsibilities for the agreed action plans are met and outcomes are achieved in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate adherence to KGM’s Health and Safety policy and procedures.
- Zero tolerance to non-compliance.
- Assist the UG Production Manager in ensuring that Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) are carried out for all necessary tasks.
- Conduct weekly underground inspections of key work areas.
- Assist the UG Production Manager with procedure development where necessary.
- Comply with all company environmental standards and procedures.
- Report on all safety, production and financial performance indicators.
- Ensure all statutory reporting requirements are met in relation to safety and environmental incidents within established deadlines.
- Daily communication with UG Production Manager to ensure that they are informed of the status of operations.
- Regular communication with all technical personnel to ensure that they are aware of the current priorities.
- Daily communication with the Maintenance Foreman on the status of equipment and scheduled maintenance.
- Regular communication with sub-contractors to ensure that targets are met in the required timeframes.
- Work in compliance with ISO 14001 and 45001 Standards.
Qualification Requirements:
- Relevant Mining qualification.
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years underground mining experience.
- Mining operations experience, including mine planning, mining equipment selection and performance, and contractor management.
- Committed to safety and demonstrates effective safety leadership.
