Join a trusted leader in agricultural merchandising and trading. The Arthur Companies has built a reputation for integrity, pioneering, excellence, and service in agriculture for over a century. We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded grain merchandiser to lead origination and sales activities across our Idaho assets, build strong relationships with farmers and grain customers, and drive profitable growth.
This is an opportunity to manage a full merchandising book of business, from originating grain with producers through marketing and selling grain to end users, while coordinating positions, logistics, risk, and execution across our Idaho team and the broader Arthur Companies platform.
What You'll Do
- Manage a full merchandising book: Originate grain from farmers and market grain to feed, processing, export, and other end-user customers, balancing supply, demand, margin, and asset needs.
- Build strategic relationships: Develop and maintain trusted relationships with Idaho producers, commercial grain customers, and industry partners to create repeat business and long-term value.
- Drive profitable decisions: Evaluate local and broader market conditions, identify trading and merchandising opportunities, negotiate purchases and sales, and achieve volume, margin, and profitability objectives.
- Manage positions and risk: Monitor futures, basis, spreads, contracts, inventory, and counterparty exposure; maintain disciplined position management and operate within established risk parameters.
- Lead execution across Idaho: Partner with Idaho operations, logistics, accounting, agronomy, and the broader merchandising team to align grain flows, transportation, quality, contract execution, and customer service across the company's Idaho assets.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of progressive experience preferred in grain merchandising, trading, origination, or agricultural commodity procurement and sales preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage a merchandising book, including purchasing, selling, position management, contract execution, and profit accountability
- Strong knowledge of cash grain markets, futures, basis, spreads, contracting alternatives, logistics, and producer and commercial risk management
- Established relationship-building, negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the credibility to work directly with experienced farmers and grain customers
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business, economics, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered
