Senior Mechanical / MEP Estimator
The Senior Mechanical / MEP Estimator plays a critical leadership role in the preconstruction process by developing accurate, strategic, and competitive estimates for complex construction projects. This individual partners closely with operations, project management, subcontractors, vendors, and executive leadership to evaluate opportunities, develop pricing strategies, and support successful project pursuits.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in mechanical systems, strong knowledge of the regional construction market, and the ability to lead estimating efforts across a wide range of project types including healthcare, higher education, laboratories, utility plants, and commercial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Preconstruction & Estimating Leadership
- Collaborate with corporate and project leadership to evaluate project opportunities, bidding strategies, and pursuit planning.
- Lead the preparation and review of detailed conceptual, schematic, and final estimates for mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Review all final estimate packages to ensure completeness, accuracy, and competitiveness prior to submission.
- Develop detailed system estimates based on conceptual narratives, drawings, and design documentation.
Bid Management & Scope Development
- Create and distribute bid invitations to qualified subcontractors and vendors.
- Develop detailed scope sheets and general requirements for mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection trades.
- Conduct subcontractor scope reviews and participate in scope alignment and negotiation discussions.
- Support procurement activities including vendor engagement and equipment pre-purchasing initiatives.
Project Analysis & Technical Review
- Review plans, specifications, schedules, RFIs, and project documentation to fully understand project requirements and risks.
- Attend jobsite walkthroughs to assess existing conditions and project constraints.
- Perform quantity takeoffs using On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and prepare estimates utilizing Excel and Sage platforms.
- Support value engineering and value management initiatives by evaluating alternative materials, systems, and construction methods.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Participate in client presentations, interviews, and internal project review meetings.
- Provide technical support during contract negotiations, change order discussions, and preconstruction planning.
- Mentor estimators, junior estimators, and interns to support team development and technical growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- 15+ years of construction estimating and preconstruction experience, preferably within the regional market.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems across complex project environments including hospitals, laboratories, dormitories, utility plants, and commercial facilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local subcontractor markets, union environments, pricing structures, and construction costs.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement practices, and preconstruction processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Sage, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), and related estimating tools.
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- OSHA 10 Certification preferred; certification will be required upon hire if not currently active.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $160,000 – $245,000 annually Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, technical expertise, and market considerations.
