The Opportunity

Save the Children Bangladesh established a Maternal and Child Hospital (MCH) at Camp-21, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, to address unmet health care needs and provide comprehensive maternal, neonatal, and child health services to Rohingya refugees and the adjacent host community. The hospital delivers emergency and specialized care, including obstetric and neonatal services, to reduce morbidity and mortality among vulnerable populations.

The Senior Medical Officer – Emergency will play a key role in ensuring the effective functioning of the Emergency Department by providing high-quality emergency clinical care, rapid assessment, stabilization, and management of critically ill patients. The position will also support supervision of junior medical staff, coordinate emergency response within the hospital, and ensure adherence to clinical protocols, patient safety standards, and humanitarian health guidelines.

The Senior Medical Officer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, paramedics, specialists, and hospital management to ensure timely emergency care, appropriate referrals, and continuity of services for patients requiring further treatment within the hospital or at higher-level facilities

Qualifications and Experience

  • 3–5 years of clinical experience, preferably in Emergency Medicine or Acute Care.
  • Completion of at least one year of postgraduate clinical training/internship.
  • Minimum one year of professional experience at a hospital level.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing emergency cases, including trauma and burn management.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital emergency department is strongly preferred.
  • Up-to-date evidence of current license and registration to practice.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote and insecure locations, in unstable areas
  • Previous experience in managing pediatric complications often associated with humanitarian emergencies.
  • Advanced life support, pediatric life support and neonatal life support trained or their equivalents.
  • An MBBS degree from a recognised medical institution and registered with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).
