Salary Range: Band 6 $116,089 - $128,453 + Superannuation

Duration: Up to 12 months (Parental leave position) (Extension/s thereafter but not guaranteed).

Our purpose is to enhance, protect and promote the integrity and reputation of Council. We work closely with and provide support to the Lord Mayor and Councillors, the Chief Executive Officer and all Council Programs.

Our Branch

Strategic Communication and Engagement lead the centre-led coordination of Council’s communication and messaging, ensuring residents experience one unified voice.

The Role

Corporate Affairs are seeking a talented and proactive Senior Media Officer with a strong background in media, corporate communications, and stakeholder engagement.

You will manage media enquiries, working in close liaison with key stakeholders across the organisation to ensure timely, accurate and effective responses.

This role is responsible for developing and reviewing engaging media and communication materials that strengthen Council's reputation, promote key programs and services, and enhance community engagement.

You will provide expert advice on media and communication opportunities, identify emerging trends and potential reputational risks, and help ensure materials are timely, accurate and aligned with Council's brand, corporate priorities and community expectations.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with experience in a corporate communication, government, media, journalism environment.

You will be confident managing multiple projects, building stakeholder relationships, preparing high-quality content for diverse audiences, and delivering measurable communication outcomes.

To be successful you will have:

• proven experience in journalism, corporate communications or public relations, with a strong understanding of contemporary media and communication trends
• demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating media materials and strategies that support organisational objectives and community outcomes
• proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, balancing competing priorities while meeting deadlines, budgets and organisational requirements
• strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders
• exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including researching, writing, editing, proofreading and creating content for multiple channels
• strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to identify media opportunities, manage issues proactively and protect organisational reputation.
• Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline will be highly regarded
• experience working within a corporate, government or large organisational environment is desirable
