An established, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Illinois-based team. This role supports a diverse portfolio of projects across government, higher education, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to manage complex mechanical systems from concept through construction.
Serve as a senior mechanical engineer across all phases of project development, including client coordination, pre-design, final design, site visits, meetings, and project management
Conduct existing conditions surveys and document findings using PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, sections, elevations, and technical details
Lead the conceptual development and detailed design of process, mechanical, and plumbing systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards
Maintain overall responsibility for engineering and design execution related to mechanical and plumbing systems
Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, electrical, and controls disciplines to resolve complex design and coordination challenges
Prepare and organize construction drawings, technical specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates
Develop engineering solutions, cost estimates, bills of materials, and project schedules
Apply in-depth knowledge of mechanical, piping, and plumbing codes and industry standards
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering program in the United States
Licensure:
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Experience:
15+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer within an MEP or multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm
Proven experience delivering complex mechanical and plumbing systems for institutional, healthcare, industrial, or commercial projects
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
Strong understanding of mechanical, piping, and plumbing design principles
Experience preparing PFDs, P&IDs, construction documents, and technical specifications
Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Collaborative mindset with the ability to coordinate across disciplines
Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and accuracy
