Job Description

Job Objective

Lead and oversee all mechanical maintenance operations of plasma donation and processing equipment, including HVAC, mechanical systems, and firefighting systems. Ensure optimal uptime, safety, and regulatory compliance (e.g. cGMP). Coordinate with cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • External: Maintenance service provider, mechanical systems suppliers

Key responsibility

  • Supervise the mechanical maintenance team and technicians. Oversee work assignments, performance, and development.
  • Develop, plan, and monitor of the execution of preventive maintenance tasks for mechanical systems per SOPs and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of mechanical failures, coordinating timely corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure mechanical maintenance activities comply with cGMP and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and ensure strict adherence to SOPs and maintenance protocols.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electro-mechanical components using diagnostic tools, coordinate replacement of defective parts.
  • Monitor equipment performance metrics, KPIs, and downtime logs. Implement analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Lead continuous improvement in reliability, efficiency, and safety of mechanical systems.
  • Identify spare parts needs and manage inventory for key mechanical assets.
  • Use CMMS (e.g., SAP PM) to schedule work orders, log maintenance history, downtime, and parts usage.
  • Generate reports and updates on equipment condition and maintenance outcomes.
  • Work closely with Quality, Safety, Operations, and external vendors to coordinate maintenance activities and equipment upgrades.
  • Participate in internal audits and regulatory inspections; support corrective actions where required.

Academic experience required

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering with extensive experience.

Professional Experience Required

  • At least 7-10 years in mechanical maintenance roles within GMP-regulated environments (pharmaceutical, plasma, healthcare).
  • Proficiency in preventive and corrective maintenance techniques across mechanical systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical/hydraulic systems, HVAC, pumps, valves, Fire systems.
  • Strong trouble shooting skills using diagnostic instruments and schematics.

Computing Skills

  • Competent in CMMS systems (SAP PM or similar) and MS Office.

Personal Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage shifts, and handle emergencies.

Grifols Egypt for plasma derivatives is a joint-venture (JV) company between the Egyptian Government, through the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) and Grifols, the global leader in plasma medicines with more than 110 years of contribution to improving the health and well-being of people.

This joint venture is the first of its kind in the plasma industry and the first-ever Egyptian source member of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA). GEPD is a groundbreaking global public-private alliance that will benefit the entire region.

GEPD is committed to developing the plasma medicines market and achieving self-sufficiency in these critical therapies, which is crucial for the Egyptian healthcare system.

We are combining the expertise of both shareholders to build and operate 20 plasma donation centers throughout Egypt, along with manufacturing facilities including fractionation, purification, and fill-and-finish plants with a processing capacity of up to 1 million liters of plasma annually that can double in the future.

The new manufacturing facility will include a plasma warehouse and a testing laboratory. It will occupy 105,000 square meters strategically located in the administrative capital’s medical city, adjoining various healthcare institutions.
