Salary: $100,000 - $140,000 (Commensurate with experience)
Who we are
We are a specialized custom machinery manufacturer in Twinsburg, Ohio, with a dedicated team of approximately 40 employees and 16 engineering professionals. Our team designs and builds high-performance custom testing equipment, serving defense and commercial vehicle sectors.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Role
This position exists to own the full lifecycle engineering and design of complex, custom dynamic machinery from initial concept through shop floor manufacturing release. The role is responsible for executing full-lifecycle mechanical design, performing complex rotating dynamics analysis, and validating real-world fit and performance on the shop floor.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities
- Design complex chassis, test-stand dynamometers, and high-speed rotating equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Perform critical speed, dynamic loading, and rotor dynamics analysis on dynamic machine structures and assemblies
- Conduct calculations for mass inertia, shaft sizing, bending, torque, power, energy, thermal parameters, and fatigue limits
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA) on load frames, test stands, and machine bases subjected to cyclic and dynamic forces
- Create fully detailed manufacturing drawings utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Select and integrate precision couplings, high-speed driveline components, gearboxes, bearings, and fluid power systems
- Create and maintain detailed, project-scale Bills of Materials (BOMs) throughout the design lifecycle
- Support fabrication and assembly hands-on in the shop floor environment, troubleshooting assemblies and checking part fit
- Review and interpret extensive technical scope-of-work documents, specifications, and applicable national standards
- Rapidly adapt to dynamically changing project schedules, custom project scopes, and customer requirements
- Perform occasional travel for project evaluation, equipment installation, commissioning, and on-site customer support
Senior Mechanical Engineer Reporting Relationships
This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager / Project Manager and does not currently have direct reports.
About You
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME / MSME)
- Possess 7 to 10+ years of experience designing complete one-off custom machinery and dynamic rotating equipment
- Demonstrate expert fluency in SolidWorks and creating manufacturing drawings using GD&T
- Bring proven experience in rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, mass inertia calculations, and high-speed bearing selection
- Exhibit proficiency in sizing shafts, specifying materials, heat treatments, surface finishes, and calculating fatigue life
- Demonstrate working knowledge of mechanical-electrical integration, including gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, AC motors, VFDs, and PLCs
- Demonstrate a methodical, organized work style with strong multi-tasking capabilities and high attention to detail
- Comfortably own complex engineering designs end-to-end with minimal supervision in a small-company environment
