MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team working in Crane, IN. This is an onsite position.

Are you ready to engineer cutting-edge solutions that directly impact the operational capabilities of the Navy and Marine Corps? As a core Senior Mechanical Engineer on our innovative team, you'll be deeply involved in the full spectrum of engineering activities – from initial research and design to seamless integration, rigorous testing, and insightful analysis. You'll focus on developing critical defensive cyber technologies, ensuring mission assurance, advancing command and control systems, and building resilient tactical networks. Your efforts will directly translate into enhanced effectiveness for the warfighter. If you're an enthusiastic and proactive engineer who excels in collaborative, dynamic environments and is driven to make a tangible difference, we encourage you to apply!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design, modeling, and detailing of complex mechanical enclosures, ruggedized tactical hardware, and structural assemblies using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).

  • Perform FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for structural, thermal, vibration, and shock performance to ensure hardware meets military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-167, MIL-STD-901D).

  • Oversee prototype fabrication, plan test methodologies, manage environmental testing, and resolve design flaws identified during qualification testing.

  • Conduct Design Reviews (PDR/CDR), generate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and mentor junior engineering staff.

  • Partner with electrical engineers, systems engineers, and program managers to integrate mechanical designs into broader multi-disciplinary architectures.

  • Work closely with machine shops and fabrication vendors to ensure Manufacturability (DFM/DFA) and quality control compliance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's level degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM field.

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably with a focus on electronic systems.

  • Proficiency in using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for design and documentation.

  • Knowledge of material selection, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's level degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM field.

  • Hands-on experience with military environmental standards (MIL-STD-810G/H) and ruggedized electronic packaging.

  • Advanced proficiency in FEA/CFD analysis tools (ANSYS, Femap, or Nastran).

  • Direct experience supporting defense electronics, C4ISR systems, aerospace platforms, or tactical ground vehicles.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Systems Engineering certification (INCOSE).

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active US Government Secret Security Clearance.

  • Uncleared candidates will be required to obtain an interim secret security clearance to start.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting & Handling: Ability to lift, carry, or position mechanical components, test equipment, or prototype assemblies weighing up to 30 to 50 lbs independently.

  • Mobility & Posture: Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouch, and reaching to inspect hardware, set up test beds, or work inside vehicle/aircraft bays. Extended sitting at a workstation for CAD modeling and FEA analysis.

  • Manual Dexterity: Fine motor skills to assemble intricate mechanical parts, use hand tools (torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers), and operate sensitive lab instrumentation.

  • Visual & Auditory Acuity: Close visual acuity for detailed technical drawings, inspection of micro-cracks/welds, and precise alignment. Ability to hear equipment warning signals and safety alarms in high-noise lab or testing environments.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Capability to wear required safety gear for extended periods, including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, ear protection, hard hats, and cleanroom or ESD-safe garments when required.

Environmental & Working Conditions:

  • Lab & Field Travel: Working in climate-controlled office spaces, machine shops, thermal/vibration testing facilities, and outdoor environmental test ranges (e.g., Aberdeen Proving Ground, Yuma Proving Ground).

  • Noise & Hazards: Exposure to moderate-to-high noise levels during environmental shaker testing, thermal chambers, machine shop operations, or live-fire/vehicle field trials.
