Senior Mechanical Engineer – Healthcare Building Systems

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of complex healthcare and commercial building systems while helping shape the next generation of engineering excellence. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will take ownership of sophisticated HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs from concept through construction, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, sustainable, and high-performing facilities.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for healthcare and commercial building projects.
• Develop innovative mechanical solutions that prioritize energy efficiency, sustainability, constructability, and long-term building performance.
• Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other design professionals to seamlessly integrate building systems.
• Perform engineering calculations, load analyses, energy modeling, and system evaluations to optimize project performance and lifecycle costs.
• Prepare detailed construction documents, specifications, and Revit models that meet applicable building codes and industry standards.
• Select appropriate mechanical equipment and materials based on project requirements, sustainability goals, and operational efficiency.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams throughout all phases of design and construction.
• Review construction progress, respond to RFIs, evaluate submittals, and provide engineering support during construction administration.
• Incorporate sustainable design strategies and energy-efficient technologies into every project.
• Support project budgeting and collaborate with estimating teams to develop cost-effective engineering solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers while providing technical leadership across multiple projects.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, schedule, and client satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline (Master's Degree preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Minimum 8+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for building projects.
• Demonstrated healthcare project experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Revit.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design.
• Thorough understanding of applicable building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and engineering judgment.
• Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple complex engineering projects simultaneously.
• Commitment to sustainable, high-performance building design.
• Ability to work full-time in the Charlotte office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading healthcare facility design projects.
• Experience mentoring engineering staff and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
• Knowledge of energy modeling and sustainable building certifications.
• Experience with complex institutional or mission-critical facilities.
• Strong client relationship management and project leadership experience.
• Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
