The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and mechanical and structural engineering expertise across the design, construction, commissioning, and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects.

Working closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, subcontractors, consultants, OEMs, and clients, this role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving engineering excellence, managing technical risks, coordinating interfaces across disciplines, and supporting successful project delivery from design through to completion.

This position is based on a major renewable energy project located in the Fraser Coast region of Queensland and operates on a 2 weeks on / 1 week off (2:1) FIFO/DIDO roster, with accommodation provided during rostered work periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical and structural design development, review, and Issued for Construction (IFC) approvals.
  • Coordinate design interfaces with OEMs, including tracker, module, and BESS vendors, as well as the Principal and key project stakeholders.
  • Oversee mechanical subcontractors’ execution, ensuring scope, methodology, progress, quality, and compliance requirements are achieved.
  • Manage vendor installation procedures and ensure compliance with torque, fastening, and structural QA requirements for steelwork, structures, and module installations.
  • Review and manage Mechanical Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Technical Queries (TQs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and design changes.
  • Coordinate and manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical, and civil work packages to support efficient project delivery.
  • Ensure all works comply with relevant Australian Standards, project specifications, HSE requirements, and environmental obligations.
  • Support mechanical completion activities, inspections, punch lists, commissioning support, and project handover requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, constraints, and resource requirements.
  • Provide regular reporting on project progress, engineering issues, risks, and resourcing requirements to the Project Manager and Construction Manager.
  • Support procurement, planning, scheduling, and project delivery activities as required.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all engineering activities are completed in accordance with company policies and legislative requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering; RPEQ registration or eligibility (Queensland project).
  • 8+ years’ experience including utility-scale solar, heavy structural, or BESS works in a contractor/EPC environment.
  • Demonstrated subcontractor management and design management track record.
  • Australian working rights; White Card; willingness to be site-based at Fraser Coast, QLD on a 2:1 FIFO/DIDO roster with accommodation provided.
  • Strong experience managing mechanical and structural design development, review, and IFC approval processes.
  • Experience coordinating OEMs (tracker, module, and BESS vendors) and Principal representatives.
  • Proven ability to oversee mechanical subcontractors’ execution including scope, methodology, progress, quality, and compliance.
  • Strong capability in managing vendor installation procedures and torque/fastening QA requirements for structural systems.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical ITPs, technical queries (TQs/RFIs), and design changes.
  • Strong understanding of interface management between mechanical, electrical, and civil work packages.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant AS standards and project HSE and Environmental Requirements.
  • Experience supporting mechanical completion, inspections, and handover processes.
  • Ability to report progress, risks, and resourcing requirements to senior project and construction management.
