Here at Siemens, we take pride in enabling sustainable progress through technology. We empower customers by combining the real and digital worlds, and we know our business thrives when our people thrive.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the PACS manufacturing facility in Wendell, North Carolina. This advanced individual-contributor role supports the engineering execution of the SIPANEL Protection & Automation product line and develops manufacturing-ready mechanical designs for a made-to-order production environment.

This engineer will serve as a technical guide for the design team. The role will coach engineers, build training plans and work instructions, establish practical design guidelines, and help ensure consistent engineering quality. The engineer will also own mechanical naming conventions and part-library governance while helping deploy integrated digital design tools such as NX X and Teamcenter X.

The ideal candidate combines advanced 3D CAD capability, preferably in Siemens NX, with strong configuration-management and manufacturing-systems experience. Success requires working across engineering, production, systems engineering, quality, and external partners to convert customer and system requirements into accurate, controlled, production-ready design packages.

This role reports to the PACS Design Engineering Manager and does not have direct people-management responsibility. Flexible hours may occasionally be needed to support production schedules.

You Will Make an Impact By

  • Providing technical guidance, coaching, and structured knowledge transfer to mechanical design engineers without direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Creating and maintaining role-based training plans, work instructions, design checklists, and practical design guidelines that improve team capability and consistency.
  • Owning mechanical naming conventions, CAD standards, reusable design content, and the governed mechanical part library in Teamcenter.
  • Leading peer design reviews and quality checks for 3D models, drawings, bills of material, release packages, and manufacturing documentation; documenting findings and driving closure.
  • Building and maintaining high-fidelity Siemens NX 3D digital twins of PACS and SIPANEL assemblies, including layouts, assemblies, components, and manufacturing-ready drawings.
  • Taking end-to-end responsibility for mechanical bills of material, including creation, validation, configuration control, and release of parts, assemblies, and orders to SAP production systems.
  • Creating, coordinating, and managing order change notices and engineering change notices, including impact assessment, documentation, stakeholder alignment, implementation, and closure.
  • Serving as a key engineering process lead for deployment and adoption of integrated design tools, including NX X and Teamcenter X, with emphasis on data quality, migration readiness, workflows, user training, and standard work.
  • Using Salesforce workflows to coordinate engineering requests, approvals, status, and handoffs across the order lifecycle.
  • Partnering directly with manufacturing teams to resolve build issues, clarify design intent, reduce rework, and improve manufacturability, material readiness, and schedule performance.
  • Performing structured root cause analysis for design, release, and build issues; defining corrective and preventive actions and verifying effectiveness.
  • Defining, reporting, and reviewing engineering KPIs such as design quality, first-pass release quality, change volume, cycle time, backlog, rework, and training completion; improving data integrity and follow-through.
  • Supporting continuous improvement, automation, and digitalization initiatives that strengthen engineering quality, delivery, and cost performance while maintaining applicable safety and quality requirements.

You'll Win Us Over By Having

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field; equivalent practical experience may be considered where permitted.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience, including 3+ years creating production-ready 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and bills of material in a complex engineered-to-order or made-to-order environment.
  • Advanced 3D CAD skills, including complex assembly modeling, design intent, drawing creation, tolerance application, and design for manufacturability.
  • 2+ years of experience guiding, mentoring, or training engineers and creating technical work instructions, design standards, or structured training content.
  • 2+ years of experience performing formal peer reviews or quality checks of engineering models, drawings, bills of material, and release documentation.
  • 2+ years of experience with a PLM or product-data-management system and an ERP/MRP system, including controlled part, BOM, and order releases to production.
  • 2+ years of experience managing engineering changes or order changes through documented workflows, including impact analysis and implementation tracking.
  • Experience using structured root cause analysis and reporting operational or engineering KPIs.
  • Ability to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in industrial control panels, electrical distribution equipment, automation systems, or a comparable configured manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Siemens NX, including large assemblies, reusable content, routing, or wiring-harness applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens Teamcenter and participation in an NX X and/or Teamcenter X implementation, migration, integration, or adoption program.
  • 3+ years of experience with SAP production release workflows and complex multi-level bills of material.
  • 2+ years of experience with Salesforce engineering, order-management, case-management, or approval workflows.
  • Experience governing CAD naming conventions, part classifications, standard parts, and reusable mechanical libraries.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical and knowledge of UL 508A panel-building standards.
  • Experience applying Lean or continuous-improvement methods to engineering cycle time, defects, rework, or release quality.

Why This Role Matters

This role raises the technical capability and consistency of the PACS design organization. By combining advanced mechanical design with coaching, standards, design governance, and peer review, the engineer helps the team deliver accurate designs that production can build with confidence.

The position also connects engineering work across NX, Teamcenter, Salesforce, and SAP. Strong ownership of data, releases, changes, and KPIs will help shorten feedback loops, improve traceability, reduce avoidable rework, and support a scalable digital engineering environment.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • A documented training matrix and role-based training plans are in use, and priority work instructions and design guidelines are published with clear ownership and revision control.
  • Mechanical naming conventions and the part library have defined governance, duplicate or nonstandard content is reduced, and engineers can find and reuse approved parts.
  • Peer-review and release-quality checklists are consistently applied, findings are tracked to closure, and recurring defects are addressed through root cause analysis.
  • NX X and Teamcenter X deployment activities have clear engineering requirements, validated workflows, user-readiness materials, and measurable adoption progress.
  • Parts, bills of material, and orders are released to SAP with traceable approvals and fewer avoidable downstream corrections.
  • Order change notices and engineering change notices have visible status, ownership, aging, and closure discipline.
  • Engineering KPI reporting is reliable, reviewed on a regular cadence, and used to prioritize improvement actions.
