Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Working with a leading mechanical manufacturing company based outside of Kilkenny City, currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team. This role focuses on the design and development of custom mechanical systems, machine builds, and industrial automation solutions across a range of industries. The successful candidate will bring strong design-for-manufacture expertise and the ability to lead projects from concept through to production.
Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of custom equipment, machinery, and automation systems using SolidWorks
Manage projects from concept through to production, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery targets are met
Collaborate closely with production teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and manufacturable
Produce detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Work cross-functionally with project managers, controls engineers, and clients
Contribute to the design of systems used across sectors such as food and beverage manufacturing
Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting best practices and design standards
Drive continuous improvement in design efficiency, product quality, and workflow processes
Ensure all designs meet required technical standards, safety regulations, and client specifications
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
5–10 years’ experience in mechanical design within manufacturing, automation, or machine build environments
Strong experience in design for fabrication (welding, machining, sheet metal)
Proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modelling, assemblies, and drawing generation
Proven ability to work closely with production and cross-functional teams
Strong communication, problem-solving, and practical engineering skills
