Job Title: Manufacturing Quality Engineer (MQA)
Function: Manufacturing Quality Assurance
Location: Singapore – Front-End Wafer Fab
The Manufacturing Quality Engineer (MQA) is the systemic owner of fab quality performance — driving effective CAPA execution, eradicating root causes of yield loss and defect excursions, and sustaining Wafer Final Yield (WFY) through data-driven, cross-module engagement. The role is hands-on technically, statistically rigorous, and operates as a horizontal influencer across module process, equipment, integration, product engineering, and customer quality teams.
Job Functions
- Drive systematic root-cause elimination and effective CAPA closure for manufacturing quality issues impacting WFY, outgoing quality, and customer returns — owning the loop from problem definition through verified, sustained corrective action.
- Lead structured problem-solving for sporadic excursions and chronic yield detractors using 8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why, Cause Map, and Fault Tree Analysis; ensure rigor in containment, root-cause hypothesis testing, and effectiveness verification.
- Own Wafer Final Yield (WFY) improvement and maintenance, including:
- Pareto analysis of yield loss by bin / module / defect signature.
- Excursion management — containment, lot disposition, correction, and systemic prevention.
- Coordination of Yield Improvement Programs (YIP) across modules.
- Translating yield, defect, and parametric signals into prioritised CAPA actions.
- Partner with module process, equipment, integration, and product engineering teams across the full fab flow (Diffusion, Photo, Etch, Implant, Thin Films, CMP, Metallization, Test) to identify, contain, and eliminate defect sources.
- Perform deep-dive data analysis using JMP and Spotfire to:
- Detect statistically significant process drifts and identify tool-of-cause.
- Correlate inline metrology, defect inspection, E-test / WAT, and final-test data.
- Validate CAPA effectiveness with pre/post statistical confidence (hypothesis testing, control charting).
- Build and maintain module quality and yield monitoring dashboards (Spotfire custom expressions, IronPython scripting where required).
- Maintain and continuously improve fab quality systems aligned to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and VDA 6.3 — including PFMEA, Control Plans, Reaction Plans, Process Capability (Cp/Cpk), MSA, and SPC.
- Interface with Customer Quality to translate field complaints, 8D requests, and audit findings into actionable fab CAPA; represent Manufacturing Quality in customer, certification, and internal audits (preparation, on-site support, follow-up, closure).
- Influence and align module quality counterparts across the fab — driving consistent quality standards, shared accountability for systemic issues, and collaborative CAPA execution without direct line authority.
- Prepare and present quality and yield reporting (daily / weekly / monthly), including management escalation packages for major excursions and Quarterly Quality Reviews.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering or Science — Electrical, Materials, Chemical, Physics, or related discipline.
- Strong working knowledge of semiconductor front-end processes, product design considerations, and production operations — able to reason from physical / electrical failure mode back to specific process modules and operating conditions.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with structured problem-solving methodologies — 8D, CAPA, Ishikawa, 5-Why, Cause Map, FTA — in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proven data analysis capability with JMP and Spotfire — including statistical modelling, distribution / variance analysis, regression, DOE analysis, and custom Spotfire expressions / IronPython scripting. SAS or Python is an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience with quality engineering tools: SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, Cp/Cpk, MSA, DOE, internal audits, and QMS procedures.
- Track record of sustained yield improvement and defect reduction delivered through cross-functional CAPA execution (quantifiable results expected at interview).
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills — able to align module process, equipment, and product engineering peers without direct authority, and to hold the line on quality decisions under operational pressure.
- High integrity, strong personality, and the ability to make data-driven calls under excursion conditions.
- Fast learner, independent, detail-oriented, and self-driven, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical findings into clear management, customer, and auditor narratives.
- Added advantages: Certification / working knowledge of IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, or ISO 9001; familiarity with reliability fundamentals (FA, ELFR, EM, NBTI, HCI) and their link to manufacturing defect signatures; exposure to automotive customer quality requirements.
- Job grade: 12–13.
