Job Description

Senior Manufacturing Estimator

Help Perfecto Decide What Work We Win

Perfecto Tool and Engineering Co., Inc. is growing, adding customers and capabilities while investing in a new building, our team, technology, processes, and systems. We are looking for an experienced manufacturing professional who understands how work is actually made and can turn that knowledge into accurate, competitive, and commercially sound estimates.

This is not a desk-only quoting role. You will use practical machining and tooling experience to evaluate opportunities, identify risk, develop manufacturing assumptions, and help Perfecto decide what work to pursue and how to win it. You may already be a senior estimator, or an applications engineer, manufacturing engineer, process engineer, or experienced toolmaker moving toward broader quoting and commercial responsibility.

Mission of the Position

The Senior Manufacturing Estimator converts customer requirements into accurate, timely, and competitive manufacturing estimates. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Operations, you will determine how Perfecto could manufacture the work, document assumptions and risks, and build estimates grounded in real shop capabilities. Success means better quote quality, faster turnaround, less avoidable estimating risk, and winning work that supports customer value and profitable growth.

What You Will Own

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, models, and supporting information to establish scope and manufacturability.
  • Develop manufacturing approaches, routings, labor estimates, material requirements, outside-service needs, and other cost inputs.
  • Identify cost drivers, technical risks, missing information, and potential failure points before quoting.
  • Document assumptions, exclusions, risks, and open questions so commercial and manufacturing teams understand each estimate.
  • Partner with Sales on proposals and customer requirements, and with Engineering and Operations to validate methods, capacity assumptions, lead times, and execution risk.
  • Support quote reviews and disciplined pursue, no-pursue, and pricing decisions.
  • Compare estimated assumptions with actual results, improve estimating tools and standard work, and share manufacturing knowledge across the organization.

The Experience We Are Looking For

  • Substantial hands-on or technical experience in high-mix, low-volume precision machining, tooling, or comparable custom manufacturing. Deep machining and tooling knowledge is essential.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing methods, materials, setups, routings, labor drivers, outside processes, and manufacturing risk.
  • Ability to translate drawings and technical requirements into a practical manufacturing plan and cost estimate.
  • Commercial judgment that balances accuracy, competitiveness, risk, customer value, and profitability.
  • Clear communication with Sales, Engineering, Operations, customers, and suppliers
  • Confidence asking questions and challenging weak assumptions.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines without losing important details.

Formal estimating experience is preferred, not an absolute requirement. We welcome senior manufacturing estimators, applications engineers, manufacturing engineers, process engineers, cost or quoting engineers, and experienced toolmakers with quoting responsibility. Perfecto will also consider a manufacturing expert with deep machining and tooling knowledge, strong judgment, commercial aptitude, and the ability to learn and own a disciplined estimating process.

An associate or bachelor’s degree in machining, engineering, manufacturing, or a related discipline is helpful but not required when equivalent manufacturing experience demonstrates the ability to succeed.

What Success Looks Like

  • Quotes delivered within agreed turnaround times, with clear, supportable manufacturing assumptions.
  • Important cost drivers and technical risks identified before submission, with assumptions, exclusions, and open questions documented.
  • Trust earned through responsiveness, technical credibility, and commercial judgment.
  • Estimate quality improved through feedback from actual manufacturing results.
  • Stronger estimating methods and work won that fits Perfecto’s capabilities, customers, and growth strategy.

Why Join Perfecto

You will influence more than the price on a quote: what work we pursue, how we manufacture it, what risks we accept, and where we build capability. Perfecto’s investment in our team development, manufacturing environment, technology, and estimating methods offers meaningful technical ownership, access to manufacturing leadership, and participation in building a stronger commercial and operational system. As Perfecto grows, this role offers a visible path toward broader commercial or operational leadership.

About Perfecto Tool & Engineering Co.

Founded in 1955 by Paul J. Skaggs, Perfecto Tool was started to serve the die casting industry by building shot end replacement parts, die cast dies and the rebuilding of die cast machines. In 1959, Perfecto Tool built its first building on Anderson’s Southside, which was to serve as its permanent location. Evolving into a fully integrated builder of special machinery and precision tooling, customer satisfaction became the cornerstone of growth for the next four decades. Increased business lead the company to five building expansions, numerous capital equipment investments and consistent growth in the number of dedicated skilled craftsmen who came to build special machinery and precision tooling that was destined to become known worldwide for its production capability. Under the leadership of the third generation, Perfecto is still growing, and looking forward to the future. We are constantly challenging ourselves to be creative and utilize the most innovative technology. Our experienced team, combined with the latest technology all under one roof, sets us apart from our competition. Perfecto is now serving customers in 26 states and 13 countries and strives to be the best machine builder in the Midwest.
