Job Description

Coherent Vietnam is seeking Manufacturing Engineers to support the transfer, ramp-up, and ongoing production of high-precision optical, mechanical, and opto-mechanical assemblies used in advanced semiconductor equipment.

This role is focused on precision assembly in a Class 1000 cleanroom environment. The products are complex, high-value subassemblies where dimensional accuracy, optical performance, cleanliness, FOD/ESD control, process discipline, and documentation accuracy are critical.

The selected candidates will work closely with global engineering, manufacturing, quality, metrology, and production teams to establish robust local manufacturing capability in Vietnam. The role includes hands-on process support, technician training, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and close collaboration with the United States development and manufacturing teams.

The selected candidates will have the opportunity to spend significant upfront training time in the United States.

We are open to considering candidates at Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Team Lead level depending on relevant experience, technical expertise, and leadership capability.

Manufacturing Environment

This is not a traditional high-volume production role. The manufacturing environment is low-volume, high-value, and technically demanding, with strict customer, quality, and documentation requirements.

You will work with:

  • High-precision optical, mechanical, and opto-mechanical assemblies used in advanced semiconductor equipment
  • Class 1000 cleanroom manufacturing environments
  • Sensitive optical, coated, precision-machined, and high-value components
  • Strict FOD, ESD, contamination-control, and cleanliness requirements
  • Precision assembly tooling, calibrated fixtures, torque tools, adhesives, and alignment methods
  • Advanced inspection and metrology systems including CMM, optical inspection, interferometry, and precision mechanical measurement equipment
  • Manufacturing processes with strong emphasis on quality, traceability, process stability, yield, and on-time delivery

Working Location Nhon Trach 1 (Dong Nai)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the transfer and ramp-up of high-precision semiconductor equipment assembly processes from the United States to Vietnam.
  • Develop, review, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes for complex optical, mechanical, and opto-mechanical assemblies to ensure process stability, product quality, yield performance, operational efficiency, and on-time delivery.
  • Create and update work instructions, assembly procedures, process-control sheets, travelers, kitting documents, inspection records, and technician training materials, ensuring alignment with quality and traceability requirements.
  • Train, support, and qualify technicians and production teams on assembly methods, cleanroom behavior, optical-component handling, tooling, inspection steps, documentation discipline, and quality requirements.
  • Work hands-on in a Class 1000 cleanroom manufacturing environment with precision components, calibrated tools, fixtures, adhesives, and inspection equipment.
  • Support setup, qualification, use, and improvement of assembly tooling, fixtures, process equipment, inspection methods, and process controls.
  • Ensure compliance with FOD, ESD, cleanliness, contamination-control, product-handling, optical-component handling, cleanroom requirements.
  • Troubleshoot assembly, alignment, inspection, cleanroom, and process issues; identify root causes; and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support first-article builds, pilot builds, process validation, production qualification, manufacturing readiness, and production ramp activities.
  • Work with CMM, precision mechanical measurement tools, optical inspection tools, and interferometric metrology systems as required.
  • Analyze process data, inspection results, metrology data, and quality trends to improve yield, process stability, cycle time, and overall manufacturing performance.
  • Support process capability improvement, process-control activities, and data-driven problem solving to strengthen manufacturing performance and process stability.
  • Work closely with engineering, production, quality, maintenance, supply chain, metrology, and global technical teams to support operational objectives, customer requirements, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Support customer audits, internal audits, ISO activities, and quality-system requirements as required.
  • Promote a disciplined, safe, clean, and continuous-improvement-oriented manufacturing environment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field. Preferred majors include Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Precision Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Optics or Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or Applied Physics.
