Summary
The Senior Manager, Freight Forwarding Accounting is responsible for the overall quality, governance, and effectiveness of financial accounting and reporting across Freight Forwarding operations.
This position provides strategic financial leadership, establishes accounting priorities and control standards, oversees significant accounting judgments and financial risks, and serves as the primary accounting partner to Freight Forwarding leadership. The Senior Manager ensures that financial results, risks, and business performance are properly evaluated and communicated to the HOD, Finance leadership, CFO, and headquarters.
Responsibilities
- Assist Freight Forwarding Accounting function and establish team objectives, operating priorities, accountability standards, and reporting expectations.
- Oversee the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for Freight Forwarding operations.
- Review and approve significant accounting judgments, unusual transactions, revenue recognition matters, accrual estimates, reserves, and material financial adjustments.
- Establish and enforce accounting policies, closing governance, review standards, documentation requirements, and internal control expectations.
- Oversee financial performance management across Freight Forwarding business units, locations, customers, and service segments.
- Evaluate key financial trends, profitability, working capital, billing, collection, cost exposure, and balance sheet risks.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to Freight Forwarding business leadership regarding growth initiatives, new business opportunities, contracts, pricing, profitability, and operational decisions.
- Review significant contracts and business arrangements for accounting, financial reporting, working capital, credit, and compliance implications.
- Identify and communicate material financial risks, control deficiencies, accounting issues, and required management actions to the HOD and senior leadership.
- Lead executive-level financial reviews and present financial results, key business drivers, financial risks, and recommended actions to the HOD, Finance leadership, CFO, and headquarters.
- Oversee the annual budget, forecast, and business planning processes and challenge key assumptions, financial targets, and performance expectations.
- Ensure that the organizational structure, staffing levels, responsibilities, and capabilities of the FF Accounting team adequately support current operations and future business growth.
- Lead, coach, and develop Managers and the broader accounting organization, including succession planning, talent development, performance management, and resource allocation.
- Sponsor major accounting transformation, standardization, automation, and system improvement initiatives.
- Maintain effective coordination with Operations, Sales, Planning, IT, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Internal Audit, external auditors, and headquarters.
- Support enterprise-wide finance initiatives, organizational changes, and strategic business projects.
- Represent FF Accounting in senior management, cross-functional, audit, and headquarters discussions.
- Oversee responses to significant internal and external audit matters and ensure appropriate remediation.
- Support evaluation of acquisitions, new entities, new locations, strategic partnerships, and other major business initiatives.
- Promote continuous improvement, knowledge development, and consistent accounting practices across the organization.
- Perform other duties and strategic responsibilities as assigned by the HOD.
Compensation Range
$115,000 - $145,000 per year (Subject to Compensation Study Upon Candidate Selection)

Skills
- Knowledge of financial accounting, revenue recognition, and month-end close processes.
- Knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, account reconciliation, and financial reporting practices.
- Skill in financial analysis, profitability reporting, variance analysis, and business performance evaluation.
- Skill in SAP or other ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate results within established deadlines.
- Knowledge of Freight Forwarding, logistics, and transportation accounting practices.
- Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.
- Experience with financial reporting automation and process improvement initiatives.
- Intermediate-level MS Excel knowledge Required
- Good interpersonal skills Required
- Proficient in SAP Preferred
- Proficient with PC skills Required
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- 8-12 years of experience relating to Financial Accounting and Reporting, Revenue and Cost Accounting, Month End Closing and Account Reconciliation Required
- 10-15 years of experience relating to Financial Accounting and Reporting, Revenue and Cost Accounting, Month End Closing and Account Reconciliation Preferred
- 1 - 3 years of supervisory experience Required
- 4 - 7 years of supervisory experience Preferred
- CPA, CMA, or CA Certification Preferred
