Job Description

You crave a career that pushes you, where you'll meet challenges head on and you're guaranteed to grow.

You're passionate about public service and ready to lead a team of professionals, share your expertise and guide decision-making to help shape the future of our State.

In this role, you'll:

This is a senior leadership opportunity to lead and shape technology demand and advisory capability across Transport for NSW. As a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, you will play a critical role in ensuring technology investments are strategically aligned, well-governed, and deliver measurable business outcomes.

You will lead a team of senior Business Analysts and technology advisors, providing direction, standards, and quality assurance across advisory activities. The role focuses heavily on early-stage ideation, discovery, and demand shaping, translating complex and often ambiguous business problems into clear, actionable pathways for delivery.

You will work closely with business leaders to identify needs, shape initiatives, and prioritise opportunities, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy, enterprise architecture, and governance frameworks. You will guide the development of solution options, investment cases, and roadmap inputs, supporting decision-making at an executive level.

A key aspect of the role is uplifting the BA/advisory practice, embedding consistent standards, templates, and methodologies to ensure high-quality, repeatable outputs across the function. You will also lead quality assurance and peer review processes, reducing downstream delivery risk and ensuring strong alignment between business and technology.

You will collaborate with architecture, security, and delivery teams to challenge and refine solution direction, ensuring initiatives are feasible, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards—without necessarily being the technical design authority.

The role also contributes to portfolio planning, governance, and investment processes, supporting business case development, roadmap planning, and strategic prioritisation across a complex portfolio of initiatives.

About you

You are an experienced leader with a strong background in technology advisory, business analysis, or consulting, with proven experience leading high-performing teams in large, complex organisations.

You bring strong strategic advisory capability, with the ability to work closely with senior stakeholders to shape demand, define initiatives, and translate business needs into clear, structured outcomes. You are comfortable working in early-stage environments, dealing with ambiguity and guiding stakeholders toward well-defined solutions.

You have experience establishing and uplifting standards, frameworks, and QA practices across advisory or BA functions, ensuring consistency and quality of deliverables.

You are a confident stakeholder manager, with strong influencing and communication skills, able to build trusted relationships across business units, delivery teams, and senior leadership.

You have a strong understanding of governance, risk, and compliance, and are experienced in shaping initiatives within regulated or complex environments. You also bring commercial and investment awareness, with experience contributing to business cases, investment proposals, and portfolio planning.

As a people leader, you are committed to coaching, mentoring, and capability uplift, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
With strong judgement, adaptability, and a structured approach, you are able to navigate ambiguity, challenge thinking, and drive clarity, ensuring technology initiatives are well-defined, strategically aligned, and set up for successful delivery.
