Success in this role requires a strong accounting foundation, exceptional organizational and project management skills, and the ability to maintain visibility across a high volume of concurrent engagements. This individual will work closely with leaders across the organization to understand case activity, gather relevant information, anticipate what may change, and translate that information into appropriate tax actions and priorities.
This is a hands-on leadership role. The ideal candidate enjoys creating order from complexity, driving processes forward, and developing a team while remaining actively involved in the preparation and execution of the work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tax Operations & Case Management
· Actively manage a portfolio of 250+ Qualified Settlement Fund engagements from inception through final administration, balancing direct preparation responsibilities with oversight of work performed by the team.
· Prepare and review Form 1120-SF returns, quarterly estimated tax calculations, extensions, and related tax compliance deliverables.
· Maintain a strong working knowledge of each fund’s lifecycle, including what has occurred to date, upcoming activity, expected tax implications, and developments that could change prior assumptions.
· Analyze case activity and financial information to determine tax requirements, identify missing information, and make appropriate updates to estimates and filings.
· Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation is maintained throughout each engagement.
Leadership & Team Management
· Lead, coach, and develop a small team of tax professionals responsible for the day-to-day preparation and administration of the portfolio.
· Operate as a player-coach: set priorities, review work, and maintain a meaningful personal workload of tax calculations, returns, and case administration.
Project & Process Management / Improvement
· Maintain visibility into the status of 250+ active cases and ensure each engagement continues to move forward through its lifecycle.
· Coordinate directly with leaders and team members across departments to gather the case information necessary to make informed tax decisions.
· Develop and improve workflows that increase efficiency, consistency, visibility, and scalability.
· Proactively identify upcoming deadlines, changing circumstances, missing information, and potential bottlenecks before they affect deliverables or clients.
· Translate information from multiple sources into clear next steps for the tax team rather than waiting for complete or perfectly packaged information.
· Drive the quarterly estimated tax process by evaluating where each case is in its lifecycle, determining what information is needed, and ensuring calculations and payments are completed timely.
Client Relationship Management
· Serve as a primary tax contact for clients and other external stakeholders.
· Communicate tax requirements, estimated payments, filing timelines, and case-specific considerations in a clear and practical manner.
· Build trusted relationships by proactively researching and resolving client questions, coordinating with internal subject matter experts when needed, and providing responsive, practical guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
· Strong accounting foundation with experience in tax compliance, financial analysis, or a related accounting function.
· Demonstrated experience in project management, operations, or high-volume workflow management, including responsibility for coordinating multiple concurrent deadlines and deliverables.
· Experience leading a team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day execution and working cross-functionally to drive work forward.
Required Skills & Abilities
· Proactive and naturally curious, with a willingness to seek out information and drive issues to resolution.
· Strong organizational discipline and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain visibility across a large volume of concurrent engagements.
· Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify what information is missing, what may have changed, and what action is needed next.
· Process-oriented mindset with the ability to identify root causes, improve workflows, and create greater consistency and efficiency.
· Strong communication and relationship-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues across multiple departments.
