The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Senior Manager, Tax Advisory to play a leadership role within our Tax team, overseeing complex tax advisory and transactional matters across global investment activity. This is a senior, high impact role that combines deep technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement and people leadership.
Reporting to the Director, Tax Advisory, you will lead the tax transaction and advisory function, providing specialist domestic and international tax advice across all asset classes for the Future Fund and other funds managed by the Board of Guardians.
You will be responsible for safeguarding the Funds’ tax position, sovereign immunity entitlements and tax reputation, while partnering closely with Investment, Legal, Finance and external advisers. The role also has a strong leadership component, including developing capability within the Tax team and contributing to the ongoing evolution of tax governance and processes.
Note that the position is available on a 12-month fixed term basis (parental leave cover).
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Manager, Tax Advisory, your responsibilities will include;
Provide senior-level transactional and advisory tax advice on complex domestic and international investment structures across all asset classes
Review and benchmark investment structures to ensure tax efficiency, transparency, compliance and protection of sovereign immunity entitlements
Minimise foreign tax leakage and proactively manage tax reputational risk for the Funds and the Australian Government
Lead tax due diligence on investments, including ensuring appropriate tax risk
Coordinate, review and challenge external tax advice, including from global tax advisers
Proactively monitor global tax developments and assess implications from both a financial leakage and reputational perspective
Advise senior stakeholders on emerging tax issues and recommend appropriate responses
Support and oversee tax governance, controls and process improvements in line with the Board’s Tax Risk Management Policy
Ensure effective collaboration with the Tax Compliance team on transaction impacts and ongoing compliance obligations
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external advisers, tax authorities and peer funds
Mentor, develop and provide technical leadership to junior members of the Tax team
Deliver specific projects and contribute to broader Agency initiatives as required
About You
We are looking for a senior tax professional with deep experience in complex global investment environments, sound judgement and the ability to operate confidently at executive and Board facing levels.
You will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification in commerce, law or business (postgraduate qualifications in tax or investment well regarded)
Extensive experience in a taxation service line or corporate tax function, operating at senior manager level or equivalent
Strong experience managing all tax aspects of global private markets transactions, including fund investments, co investments, joint ventures and M&A
Essential experience with inbound US corporate tax and exposure to other international jurisdictions (UK and EU highly regarded)
Strong understanding of sovereign immunity, tax treaty and BEPS related issues
Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and provide clear, strategic advice
Proven capability in leading, mentoring and developing high performing tax professionals
