Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition and Practice Support is a key member of the HR leadership team with responsibility for two critical functions. The role leads the talent acquisition strategy and delivery for Toronto business professional roles, shaping the candidate experience from recruitment through onboarding and integration. In addition, the role provides leadership and operational oversight for the Toronto legal assistant practice support function, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture while driving operational excellence. The position offers the opportunity to partner closely with firm leadership and contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance talent strategies, operational effectiveness and firm culture.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of talent acquisition strategies to attract exceptional business professional talent and support the firm's strategic objectives.
  • Champion an outstanding candidate and onboarding experience, ensuring new hires are effectively integrated and positioned for long-term success.
  • Partner with business leaders to anticipate talent needs and develop sustainable talent pipelines.
  • Performs management and leadership responsibilities overseeing the Toronto Talent Acquisition team, which requires recruitment, orientation, training, counselling, salary administration, disciplinary procedures and termination.
  • Lead and mentor a management team supporting approximately 140 legal assistants, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and client service focused culture.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology, data analytics, and AI-enabled solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Monitor recruitment and workforce metrics, using insights to inform decision-making and optimize processes.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and operational priorities to support business requirements.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on strategic initiatives, organizational projects, and committees that advance firm objectives.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

We are seeking an experienced HR leader with a passion for talent. The ideal candidate will have a postsecondary education in Human Resources or a related discipline, along with 7 to 10 years of progressive HR experience, including people management and accountability for talent acquisition or other key HR functions. They will have a demonstrated track record of leading teams and serving as a trusted advisor to leaders and stakeholders in complex, service-oriented environments. Experience within a professional services environment is preferred, and a CHRP or equivalent professional designation is considered an asset.

  • Experience leading change management, process improvement, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Proficiency in HR technology, applicant tracking systems (ATS), people analytics, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, including leveraging AI and other technologies to enhance HR practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment legislation, regulations, and HR best practices, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Compensation

The range of expected compensation for this position is $135,000-$150,000 annually. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of factors including job-related knowledge, education, skills and experience.

We are currently working in a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a requirement to work primarily in the office and flexibility to work remotely up to one day per week.
