Smart Energy Services (SES) is a growing business in the ESB Customer Solution’s portfolio of customer businesses. SES designs, develops and delivers integrated energy management solutions for large energy users across Ireland and the UK. SES supports businesses in their Net Zero transition through tailored solutions encompassing energy efficiency, electrification of heat and transport, on‑site generation and demand‑side management technologies.

The requirements for large energy users are constantly changing in this volatile world, while the impact of climate change and sustainability is high on their agenda, they are also balancing this with their energy costs, affordability and the impact on their profitability. SES works in partnership with its customers to develop innovative technical and commercial models that reduce carbon emissions, manage energy costs and deliver sustainable, long‑term shared value.

The Senior Manager, SES is responsible for leading the business, developing the business strategy and capability to build a sustainable business of scale, and delivering for its customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously develop and implement a smart energy service business strategy that supports the delivery of ESB’s Net Zero strategy supporting customers to decarbonise in an environment where the economy, technology and customer expectations are ever changing. Scaling the business in a highly competitive market ensuring the delivery of the business commercial and other KPI’s.
• Managing the business performance, balancing the financial performance, business risk, customer requirements and competitive pressures in the market and pivoting the business to mitigate any potential challenges in the business.
• Drive robust and fit for purpose governance structure including a risk framework that protects the business while allowing it the agility to operate in a competitive environment.
• Focus on building an agile response to customers' needs including developing innovative solutions, using advanced technologies, deployment of data analytics to deliver their requirements in a regulated environment.
• Lead and develop a high-performing SES team that demonstrates ESB’s values and behaviours in all dealings with customers, contractors and employees. Ensure the business has the capabilities required for success including engineering, project management, digital and commercial.
• Ensure a safety strategy is implemented to ensure that all employees and contractors are working safely and that a strong safety ethos is embedded in the business.
• Ensure an appropriate contractor strategy is in place and continue to manage the contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and safely while not compromising on quality.
• Build and maintain key relationships with stakeholders within and external to ESB to support the business delivery, performance and ensure the appropriate supports are available to customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience within utilities, construction or energy infrastructure environments.
• Experience in the Energy Services or ESCO sector, with understanding of energy efficiency, energy management or distributed generation technologies.
• Awareness of Net Zero and low‑carbon energy transition challenges for utilities, customers and stakeholders in Ireland.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Strong commercial mindset with proven ability to analyse, understand and articulate key drivers of financial performance and manage contractual risk across complex projects and agreements.
• Strong leadership capability to develop a high-performance team and develop a culture of ownership, safety and delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across cross-functional, customer-facing teams to drive business performance.
• Full clean driver’s license.

Location

The successful candidate will be based in Santry, Dublin; however, travel will be required from time to time.

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
