Job Title: Senior Manager – Safety - South
Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Reporting To: Corporate HSE Head
As a Safety Manager at TSDPL, you will lead and oversee the implementation of health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures at our Chennai and Tada operations. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, fostering a culture of safety, and driving continuous improvement in safety performance aligned with Tata Steel's core values.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Leadership:
Develop, implement, and maintain safety standards and procedures in alignment with TSDPL’s corporate policies.
Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
2. Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure adherence to all safety regulations under the Tamil Nadu Factories Act, Environment Protection Act, and other applicable laws.
Prepare and submit reports and compliance documentation to government bodies.
3. Training & Development:
Conduct safety training and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Identify training needs and provide guidance on safe work practices and hazard prevention.
4. Incident Management:
Lead investigations for incidents, accidents, and near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
Maintain detailed records of safety incidents and prepare regular safety performance reports.
5. Audits & Inspections:
Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
Ensure the implementation of findings from safety audits in a timely manner.
6. Emergency Preparedness:
Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire safety and evacuation drills.
Coordinate with local authorities and emergency services as required.
7. Continuous Improvement:
Analyze safety data to identify trends and recommend improvements in systems and processes.
Benchmark safety performance against industry standards and recommend best practices.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial preferred) or a related field.
Advanced certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, or OSHA will be an advantage. Dip in Industrial safety from state govt.
Experience:
10 years of relevant experience in industrial safety, preferably in steel, manufacturing, or downstream industries.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety management systems.
Familiarity with Tata Steel Safety Standards and Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) is an added advantage.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Zero reportable accidents/incidents.
Compliance with statutory safety audits and certifications.
Percentage of employees and contractors trained in safety practices.
Implementation and closure of corrective actions from audits and incidents.
