Job Description

The Senior Manager - Safety will be responsible for leading and driving the Safety Management System at the Attibele Plot 26 facility. The role ensures compliance with statutory requirements, corporate EHS standards, and industry best practices while fostering a proactive safety culture across the site. The incumbent will lead risk management initiatives, incident prevention programs, contractor safety management, emergency preparedness, and continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and corporate EHS requirements.

  • Liaise with government authorities, regulatory agencies, and auditors on safety-related matters.

  • Maintain all statutory records, permits, licenses, and safety documentation.

  • Lead Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) activities across all operations.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and behavioral safety observations.

  • Identify unsafe conditions and practices and drive corrective and preventive actions.

  • Ensure implementation of machine safety, electrical safety, chemical safety, and process safety requirements.

  • Lead investigations of incidents, near misses, and unsafe occurrences.

  • Perform root cause analysis and drive closure of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Analyze safety performance metrics and develop initiatives to improve safety outcomes.

  • Promote a strong safety culture through employee engagement and leadership involvement.

  • Conduct safety awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and behavioral safety programs.

  • Facilitate safety committees and cross-functional safety reviews.

  • Mentor and coach line managers on safety leadership and accountability.

  • Establish contractor safety management systems and ensure adherence to site requirements.

  • Review and approve contractor risk assessments and work permits.

  • Monitor safety performance during construction, maintenance, and expansion projects.

  • Ensure compliance with Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems including hot work, confined space entry, work at height, and electrical isolation.

  • Develop and maintain site emergency response plans.

  • Conduct periodic mock drills for fire, chemical spills, medical emergencies, and disaster management.

  • Coordinate with local emergency services and external stakeholders.

  • Develop annual safety training plans for employees and contractors.

  • Organize statutory and competency-based training programs.

  • Ensure all employees receive necessary safety inductions and refresher training.

  • Collaborate with EHS teams to support environmental and occupational health initiatives.

  • Ensure integration of safety objectives with sustainability and operational excellence goals.

Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering / science from a recognized institution.

  • Degree/Diploma in Industrial Safety recognized by relevant statutory authorities.

  • Additional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, Lead Auditor (ISO 45001), or equivalent preferred.

  • 12-18 years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety in manufacturing, industrial, FMCG, chemical, engineering, or related sectors.

  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing plant safety functions.

  • Proven experience in implementing safety management systems and statutory compliance.

  • Experience in contractor safety, project safety, and emergency response management.

  • Strong knowledge of Indian Factory Act, Karnataka Factories Rules, and applicable EHS regulations.

  • Expertise in ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.

  • Incident investigation and root cause analysis.
