Job Scope
The Senior Manager – Pharma Commercial is responsible for leading the commercial strategy, growth, profitability, and market positioning of company's pharmaceutical portfolio. The role will drive category performance through strategic supplier and principal management, commercial negotiations, pricing governance, product portfolio optimization, demand planning alignment, and inventory management. The incumbent will be accountable for achieving revenue, margin, and market share objectives while ensuring regulatory compliance and product availability across all retail, hospital, and digital channels.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Business Leadership
- Develop and execute the annual commercial strategy for the pharmaceutical business in line with organizational growth and profitability objectives.
- Drive sales growth, gross margin enhancement, market share expansion, and category profitability across prescription and OTC portfolios.
- Lead annual business planning, budgeting, forecasting, and target-setting exercises for pharmaceutical categories.
- Identify growth opportunities through new product launches, therapeutic category expansion, and strategic partnerships with principals and manufacturers.
Principal & Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and key principals.
- Lead annual commercial negotiations covering trade terms, rebates, incentives, marketing support, payment terms, and volume agreements.
- Develop Joint Business Plans (JBPs) with key pharmaceutical partners to drive mutual growth and category expansion.
- Conduct regular business reviews with suppliers to evaluate performance, opportunities, and commercial effectiveness.
Category & Portfolio Management
- Manage the overall pharmaceutical portfolio to maximize revenue, profitability, and customer access.
- Drive product assortment optimization, rationalization, and portfolio expansion based on market demand and business priorities.
- Monitor product lifecycle performance and recommend actions to improve category productivity.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen high-growth therapeutic and specialty categories.
Pricing & Revenue Management
- Establish and govern pricing strategies while ensuring compliance with applicable pharmaceutical pricing regulations.
- Monitor market pricing trends, competitor activities, and regulatory developments impacting the pharmaceutical sector.
- Drive margin improvement initiatives through strategic pricing, sourcing efficiencies, and supplier negotiations.
- Analyze product-level profitability and implement corrective actions where required.
Demand Planning & Inventory Optimization
- Collaborate with Demand Planning and Supply Chain teams to ensure uninterrupted product availability across the network.
- Monitor inventory health, stock cover, fill rates, stock-outs, and aging inventory.
- Drive initiatives to optimize inventory investment while maintaining targeted service levels.
- Ensure effective management of short-dated, slow-moving, and non-moving inventory through proactive planning and liquidation strategies.
Commercial Analytics & Performance Management
- Develop and review dashboards covering sales, margins, inventory productivity, supplier performance, and category contribution.
- Analyze business trends, market dynamics, and customer behavior to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual business reviews with senior management.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve commercial performance.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
- Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical regulations, licensing requirements, and company policies.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Operations teams to maintain compliance standards.
- Monitor changes in industry regulations and assess their commercial impact on the business.
Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead and develop the Pharma Commercial team to achieve business objectives.
- Establish performance metrics, development plans, and succession pipelines for key roles.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive process enhancements and commercial best practices across the function.

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field (MBA preferred).
Experience
- 10–12 years of experience in Pharmaceutical Commercial Management, Category Management, Buying, Sales, Trade Marketing, or Retail Pharmacy.
- Strong network and experience working with pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and healthcare industry stakeholders.
Proven track record of delivering revenue growth, margin improvement, and successful commercial negotiations. - Strong understanding of pharmaceutical supply chains, pricing dynamics, regulatory requirements, and market trends.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, Power BI, Excel, and commercial analytics tools.
