Job Description

Solid Power, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Manager of Capital Projects Engineering to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, materials for all solid-state rechargeable batteries. This position will be a key member of the Capital Project Engineering team for the transition of Solid Power’s current electrolyte production technology to mass production. The Sr. Manager of Capital Projects Engineering will be responsible for managing a team of capital project engineers, developing the capital project and reliability systems, and driving and leading the ongoing Continuous Production Capital project through acceptance testing, commissioning, and start up. This individual will lead members of the team to develop a capital project life cycle, long range reliability planning, critical spare parts requirements, and assist with the specification and installation of new production equipment.

Job Duties:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of capital project engineers, including hiring, performance management, and technical career development.
  • Own end to end delivery of capital projects from concept and scope definition through detailed design, procurement, installation, commissioning and handoff to operations.
  • Develop, manage, and forecast capital project budgets, schedules, and cash flows. Track and report variances to executive leadership.
  • Manage vendor, OEM, and contractor relationships. Own RFQ development, technical bid evaluation, contract negotiation, and on-site vendor oversight.
  • Drive the ongoing SP2.5 capital project through Site Acceptance Testing, commissioning, validation, and successful production start-up.
  • Own and manage the team delivering engineering standards, design specifications, and best practices for equipment selection, P&IDs, and documentation across the sites.
  • Report project status, risks, and mitigation plans to executive leadership through steering committees, gate reviews, and monthly project update meetings to upper-level management.
  • Take responsibility for the correct delivery and drive maintenance of Process Hazard Analysis and implement the appropriate layers of safety procedure

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • 10+ years of industry experience in the materials production environment
  • Experience leading capital projects through the project life cycle.
  • Experience managing an engineering staff or a team through projects
  • Experience with hazardous area classification and high hazard building occupancy
  • Experience leading installations, commissioning, SOP development, and refining equipment design of new equipment under a commercial powder production environment.
  • Own team troubleshooting performing materials production equipment problems
  • Interpersonal skills in developing positive working relations to interface well with other leaders, engineers, scientists, and operations personnel
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Solid Works, electrical diagrams, P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.

Salary Range: $124,000 - $186,000/year
