As the Senior Manager, National Accounts - Commercial Credit, you will ensure the Commercial Bank's loan portfolio is efficiently maintained at an acceptable level of risk and loan losses are minimized. You will ensure credit adjudication, control activities and related processes are conducted within a strong risk culture, focusing on emerging risks and within risk appetite. Provide objective oversight and effective challenge, enable capital optimization, ensure ongoing monitoring, and partner with business lines to develop effective strategy. Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Risk Assessment and Rating Assignment:
- Adjudicate and/or authorize credit requests up to assigned limits; make sound recommendations within the Bank’s risk appetite and in adherence to our policy and standards.
- Make recommendations to the appropriate adjudicating levels, provide recommendations to improve the structure of marginal proposals into bankable deals as appropriate, and monitor the timely submission of all credit applications.
- Evaluate financial and non-financial risks for an accurate client risk profiling, and challenge banking strategies to ensure compliance with bank policies and regulatory requirements.
- Improve the quality of applications and submissions.
- Risk assessment and rating assignment, timely monitoring of changes in client’s creditworthiness, and recommending adequate course of action.
- Demonstrate skills and solid knowledge in the following areas:
- Bank’s lending policies, practices and procedures.
- Financial statements and accounting principles.
- Implications of domestic/international/economic/statutory and industry conditions.
- Competitor practices, economic and business trends and provincial / federal legislation.

- Loan syndications and capital markets.
- Understand economic, political and regulatory framework and how it impacts the assigned portfolio.
- Ensure that all terms and conditions of authorizations are accurate, and that the Bank's position is fully guarded by way of adequate security requirements and appropriate credit conditions.
- Recommending potential actions.
- Act as an advisor / partner to Banking.
Client Centric (internal/ external)
- Play an integral role in the client relationship experience by collaborating effectively with Banking, providing feedback to ensure a cohesive and efficient client experience while managing risk effectively.
- Ensure adjudication process is achieved within the established SLA parameters.
Documentation, Data and Reporting:
- Validate GRM critical data elements in credit systems which feed capital and provisions.
- Support innovation and digitize risk processes, improving accuracy of and speed of credit decisions and operational efficiencies.
Portfolio Management
- Account Monitoring: proactive and ongoing monitoring of Early Warning Signs and sectorial/market trends, to ensure timely actions on assigned portfolio.
- Work with Banking to ensure adherence to all compliance metrics of the loan portfolio is managed effectively within defined KPI.
Keeping the Bank Safe
- Supports effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Team Management: Exemplify a culture of risk awareness and accountability, supporting a client centric culture, provide coaching and an attractive value proposition for talent. Work effectively by consulting with other team members, Banking and other areas of the Bank (including Loan Syndications Group and Roynat) and share best practices with other team members within the group.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial analysis or credit adjudication.
- Minimum Post-Secondary Education completed in business or related area.
- Extensive experience in complex financial analysis.
- Good understanding of Bank lending policies and procedures, financial analysis and accounting, risk assessment techniques, credit structuring, collateral and security documentation and registration, collection, related legislation and accounting practices.
- Proven credit judgment.
- Proven ability in administering a Commercial credit portfolio.
- Strong negotiation and problem resolution skills.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, in order to produce informative, concise and professional credit replies, presentations and correspondence.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently.
- Strong coaching and counseling skills.
- Language Skills: English – advanced.
- Solid understanding of security documentation, legal ramifications and remedies.
- Good understanding of various and diverse industries in which incumbent will be required to make / recommend credit decisions and must be attentive to local economic trends within the assigned geographical area.
- Ability to make decisions, frequently in the face of uncertainty, and clearly inform rationale for decisions.
