Job Description

Senior Manager Multi-Asset Research

About the role

Are you an ambitious and experienced investment professional who loves getting under the hood of markets, testing ideas and turning research into practical investment solutions?

We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Senior Manager Multi-Asset Research to join QIC’s market-leading Multi-Asset Solutions team within our Liquid Markets Group (LMG).

This role has a strong research and investment strategy focus, providing the opportunity to undertake rigorous quantitative and qualitative research across asset classes and translate those insights into portfolio strategies and tailored solutions for institutional clients.

Working in collaboration with those clients, you’ll have the ability to research opportunities across a broad spectrum of derivatives use cases, from exposure management and portfolio completion through to portable alpha and tail hedging.

You’ll also contribute to the team’s value-add capability, researching relative value opportunities and helping translate investment ideas into portfolio positioning, predominantly through derivatives. This capability seeks to generate alpha while limiting directional market risk.

It’s an opportunity for someone who combines intellectual curiosity and strong quantitative capability with a genuine interest in financial markets – and who enjoys seeing their research applied to real-world investment decisions.

Ideally, this role will be based in Brisbane; however, we’re open to considering other locations for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Undertake multi-asset research and idea generation, combining quantitative analysis, market insights and financial modelling to identify investment opportunities.
  • Develop detailed modelling and robust research processes to support investment idea generation and the development of multi-asset solutions.
  • Generate client-specific research, drawing on the broader specialist research, strategy and risk management capabilities across LMG.
  • Contribute to LMG research and strategy projects that support the team’s continuous learning and evolution of its investment approach.
  • Apply advanced financial modelling through simulations, portfolio and product design, construction and optimisation analysis.
  • Support portfolio construction, positioning and risk management across multi-asset strategies, including derivative-based mandates and relative value strategies.
  • Translate complex research and investment ideas into clear, insightful advice and communications for clients and key stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with market counterparties in Australia and internationally to source relevant market information and share insights on emerging market trends.
  • Work collaboratively across Multi-Asset Solutions, Portfolio Implementation, Client Solutions & Capital and the broader QIC business.
  1. About you
  2. You’ll be an experienced financial markets professional who brings ambition, strong analytical capability, intellectual curiosity and a passion for understanding what drives markets.
  3. You’ll ideally bring:
  • 10+ years’ experience in financial markets across investment management, funds management and/or banking.
  • Deep knowledge of financial market fundamentals and the risk factors that drive asset returns.
  • Strong multi-asset knowledge, with particular expertise in derivatives markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake both quantitative and qualitative investment research.
  • Strong financial modelling skills and experience modelling financial instruments.
  • Advanced knowledge of exchange-traded and over-the-counter derivatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and numeracy.
  • The ability to take complex investment research, ideas and strategies and communicate them clearly to clients and stakeholders.
  • A proactive, curious and self-motivated approach, with the ability to manage multiple research priorities and workstreams.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with financial market data and information systems such as Bloomberg.
  1. If you’re intellectually curious, highly analytical and motivated by the opportunity to turn research and market insights into investment outcomes, we’d love to hear from you.
