About the role

As Orica continues to invest in and expand its global manufacturing network, we are seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Major Manufacturing Projects to join our Global Manufacturing team.

Reporting to the General Manager – Global Manufacturing Projects, this role is accountable for the successful delivery of some of Orica’s most complex and strategically important capital projects across our global manufacturing portfolio.

Operating across Australia, North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia, you will provide leadership across a portfolio of some of Orica's largest and most strategically important manufacturing projects, including major brownfield expansions, manufacturing upgrades, capital investment programs and the integration of newly acquired manufacturing operations.

This is a delivery-focused leadership role with accountability for project outcomes from concept through to commissioning and close-out. Leading through dedicated Orica Project Managers and specialist delivery teams, you will ensure safe, predictable and value-driven execution while navigating significant technical, operational and stakeholder complexity across multiple regions and manufacturing environments.

The scale and diversity of the portfolio provide a unique opportunity to influence some of the largest and most technically challenging projects across Orica’s global manufacturing footprint, while helping accelerate growth, improve asset performance and support the successful integration of acquisitions.

Location is flexible across Australia, with base location in Brisbane, Newcastle, Melbourne or Perth, together with regular travel to project sites and manufacturing operations

What you will be doing

  • Major Project Delivery
Lead the successful execution of a portfolio of major manufacturing capital projects, typically ranging from A$20M to A$100M+, that are critical to Orica’s growth, operational performance and long-term manufacturing strategy. These projects involve significant technical, operational, commercial and stakeholder complexity across multiple regions and operating environments.
  • Leadership of Project Delivery Teams
Provide leadership and oversight across project delivery teams, each led by dedicated local Orica Project Managers responsible for execution at site level.
  • Brownfield Project Execution
Deliver complex projects within operating manufacturing facilities, balancing project objectives with production requirements, operational constraints and process safety considerations.
  • Manufacturing Growth & Integration Projects
Lead the project delivery components of manufacturing acquisitions, expansions and upgrades, ensuring newly acquired assets are safely integrated into Orica’s manufacturing network and operating standards.
  • Project Performance & Controls
Maintain accountability for safety, scope, schedule, cost, quality and benefits realisation, ensuring robust project controls and disciplined delivery practices are embedded across all projects.
  • Stakeholder Leadership
Partner closely with manufacturing leaders, Asset Owners, engineering teams and senior executives to align project outcomes with operational and business objectives.
  • Safety & Risk Leadership
Champion a strong safety culture and ensure disciplined risk management within high-hazard manufacturing and Major Hazard Facility environments.
  • Continuous Improvement
Drive lessons learned, project delivery excellence and improved execution practices across Orica’s global manufacturing projects portfolio.

What you will bring

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale brownfield and greenfield capital projects in complex manufacturing or industrial environments, including major plant expansions, asset upgrades and operational integration initiatives involving significant technical, operational and stakeholder complexity.
  • Experience providing leadership across multiple project teams and influencing project delivery outcomes through Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of EPC/EPCM delivery models, contracting strategies, project controls and capital governance processes.
  • Proven capability managing complex stakeholder environments and engaging effectively with site leadership, technical specialists and senior executives.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing growth, acquisitions, integration programs or major capital investment projects will be highly regarded.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a disciplined approach to risk, safety, schedule and cost management.
  • A delivery-focused leadership style with exceptional people leadership capability and a track record of building high-performing teams.
